There are usually 4 of us but we split into 2 groups which works well generally. I hunted the Gregory area 5 or so yrs ago (private land) but haven't been back. Feels like it's time !

I've got an old mdl 31/ 16 ga I will absolutely bring. Always a tough choice between the O/U and S/S.

I have "potential" access to private property around Miller ( relative ) but don't want to depend solely on that. We've never killed limits on our January KS hunts but no crowds and plenty of WIHA has been the draw. FYI , WIHA is private property leased by the state for use by licensed hunters...

I am considering a early / mid January trip to the Miller area. We usually go to KS but would like to walk so new ground. In the past we have only hunted WIHA, is this strategy an option in S.D. ? I've checked weather averages, seems doable. Recommendations?

I made my second trip this past Jan., one word Brutal! Still thoroughly enjoyed it. Having started bird hunting late in life ( too much focus on deer ! ) I'm used to hearing about the good old days but damn this yr was ridiculous 🤣🙃

We were in Lucas last Jan., while there we saw and called in a fire. It's unbelievable until you've seen it how quickly the fire moves. Way more than grass and cows being effected. Sad ...

I completely concur, I would be willing to bet the average return on a dollar "paid" to the state is .50 cents @ best. While in general people don't like the idea of a trespass fee paid directly to to the land owner by the user is the ideal way to go. Certainly not the most practical though and...

We stayed in Lucas last yr , found a place with great cocktails and food, it was as cheap as any I've ever had. Fixed both in the kitchen of the house we rented!🤣
