    New Permission

Results! Got a bird apiece one shot kills. 9 hens 4 roosters seen total. They was holed up in a nightmare of phragmites. We call it elephant grass. Bout half of the bunch flew across creek to adjacent field. We crossed at a beaver dam and followed up. Good dog work and we had a great hunt.

    Hunting accident in Harvey County

They’re not inherently safer. Just easier to load and unload, making crossing fences, in and out of vehicles, laying gun down around dogs, easier and quicker and hence more likely to be done with an unloaded gun.

    Ammo in cold weather

Schwan man coming to our house was a big deal. I grew up on a farm out in the boonies. Any visitor was swarmed by kids and dogs let alone one with ice cream.

Old roosters are tough, or tough roosters are old?

Idk, crossed a deep creek 3 times on that hunt. Cleaned him soon as I got home. Couldn’t wait to get out of those boots. If ever there was a bird to hang for a couple days, that was one.

Old roosters are tough, or tough roosters are old?

Shot an old bird Saturday, spurs would put yer eye out. Cooked him up with Zatarans that night. We noticed how tuff he was.

    Snowshoeing for pheasants?

I think they’re referring to carrying capacity. Let’s say a field can support 100 birds in food and cover. You only need a handful of Roosters and lots of hens. If you had 130 birds you’ll save some hens shooting those roosters.
