This one made my head spin

The owner lives on the property and no one has bird hunted it this year. I'm guessing it was an old rooster. Doubt it was winged, no neighboring public close by.

This one made my head spin

I was on my first private land hunt of the season on Sunday. There had been people around, but only deer hunting, so I'm just setting the scene that the birds hadn't seen hunting pressure. I'm getting to one of the sweet spots of the property, and Skye get hot, really hot. I'm hustling to keep...

    Let's talk cattail strategies

I know a lot of guys like when things freeze because they can hunt the cattails. Of course some you can hunt earlier because they're fairly dry. I've read some guys get on a frozen lake and walk the cattail edge. I've done a little of this, and got one bird doing it. What do you look for in...

    What does this sign mean?

I see similar ones all over. Something to do with the right of way?

A good season, not without its struggles

I decided I better try a quick spot on the way home this morning before work. It's a late season hidey-hole that is overlooked. A couple roosters flushed and I got one. Nice way to cap off my tough weekend of hunting. Probably the biggest bird I've got this year. The dog was very happy.

A good season, not without its struggles

The struggle continued, hunted all day. Skye's in great shape now, and runs well in the cold. First spots only hens. Third, a buck jumped from the prairie and ran away. Skye went wild, thought maybe she was smelling him. Into thick grass she sped like a strike ball from a scratch bowler. Faster...

A good season, not without its struggles

"To my best recollection my first time ever pheasant hunting was December 2017 on the Vermillion Highlands WMA special late season." This is from the first page of my pheasant journal. In 2018 I hunted 3 days in Iowa but never got a bird. Didn't know what I was doing. Back to the journal, " 2019...

    Jeopardizing Future Opportunities

That chubby guy, Tyler webster, he really blew it up and ruined a lot of it. He constantly blabbed about it and invited anyone and everyone to come upland hunting out there. And no, I'm not making it up, he said it himself on his own podcast! Something along the lines of, "the areas we always...

What’s everyone using for non toxic shell’s? For pheasants

I think you said this in another post, but start chokes did you go with again? And are you shooting a franchie 12 gauge or is that someone else ?

    Time for another e collar!!

I have an alpha 10 I'd consider selling and the larger collar too. Lightly used works good.

    Time for another e collar!!

The 550 does look nice. It's also about the size of a bowling pin. Time for a better form factor. I have an alpha, easy to use but scrolling through menus to change something is a pain. When they say it's compatible for up to 12 collars that should tell you who its designed for.

Dog not eating when on the road hunting

I'm sure there's exceptions, but this seems to come up mostly with pointing dogs.

    Are these pheasant droppings?

Looked like they were in an old deer bed.

    Time for another e collar!!

One thing about Garmin GPS, the thing is designed with guys running hounds and is overly complicated. I have one but it's not intuitive at all. Plus the remote is too big. Lots of room for improvement.

    2024/2025 Pheasant Hunting Videos

Why did I even ask? I think Miss Cleo put a hex on me. Had two colossal whiffs tonight. You know the ones where he's so close and you're so ready you already count him in the bag? Unfortunately the tape was running💩

I like to toss a few pictures in. Often of the dog or bird, sometimes something interesting or funny I saw along the way.
