Talked to our Farmer in NC SD and asked if they have been seeing any chicks. This farm is a working farm and 100% wild birds. It also has some of the best pheasant habitat for miles. His exact quote was “we have seen very very few chicks and we are quite concerned.“

Any chance you can go to a preserve a few weeks before your wild bird hunt? Let him walk with you without a gun. Talk and teach the entire hunt on why your doing this, why you decided not to shoot, look where my gun is pointed….l etc etc. maybe let him shoot over a point with you standing behind...

If a hen successfully hatches a brood and the brood perishes from heat, or other elements she will NOT re-nest. Hens re-nest when the eggs get destroyed by skunk, raccoon or other predators. Have you seen any broods Haymaker?

I am headed to SD for a quick trip. I have shells that i’ve never used before. Will these be good for far flushing birds? Fiocchi Golden Pheasant Nickle Plated 1200 velocity 1-3/4oz 5 shot. Have never shot this heavy of a load before. Thoughts? I usually shoot 1-1/4 oz 1450:FPS.
