That is a king. The largest, most fun to catch, and personally I believe the best eating. There is also a petition filed by a conservation group to have them listed as endangered or threatened not sure which. Their numbers have plummeted in the last few years due to a variety of factors, a sad...

Why did you go with the breed that you did and have you been satisfied?

I was introduced to Goldens when I started dating my wife 50 years ago. Just stayed with them as they have worked out really well. About 25 years ago we started doing dog agility and have been really competitive with our fb Goldens. I sometimes wonder if I would be better off with a pointer at...

    Let's Bitch (Can't Hunt)

Maybe once a year I will have beef in a restaurant. It’s okay but not like moose or caribou. What I can’t do without is salmon and I get particular about which salmon. Feeder kings are first choice and silvers from the salt are next. Reds are okay made into salmon candy or smoked, but pinks...

I’m allergic to people so the first 9 days of season in any state make me break out in a sweat.

Once in a while I sometimes feel Goose has a valid point and I believed I could have a polite conversation over a cup of coffee. But when he said he has a ski boat I choked. Now I need to see a therapist to get that picture out of my head.

Yes totally agree. For one thing there is the possession limit with SD you can get it in 5 days. MT is 9 for pheasants, so someone who stays there for a month eats that many? There is no reason to annoy the locals, give them first shot at the birds. ND has no nonresidents for the first week on...

Mine’s only 10 years old. That was the last year that you could get 2 400 crates side by side in the back. The newer models have to have the floor raised so they can fit.

    Let's Bitch (Can't Hunt)

I buy one bottle of hard stuff a year. It is for my flyout hunt for big game in the fall. Because it is flyout weight is an issue. The solution was to buy something in a plastic bottle, R&R for several years which is horrible. Now southern comfort comes in plastic and that is tolerable. Usually...

    Giardia in Dogs

Suspect my dogs have it or had it at times. I treat runny stool when I see it and if it looks like dog isn't well. Okay stool I am not looking for a solution to what I don't consider a real issue. I've had it once and I'm pretty sure the dogs didn't give it to me, only my own stupidity.

    Pheasant Hunting

Bob my 15 year old golden managed a few birds this fall and the 11 year old is still a machine. As far as fishing I live where I live because of the fishing. When you are ready let me know and we will go after salmon. Oh and I have a 4 year old who tried to kill me this year. Great post. Mike

Actually in Goose’s own strange way he makes a point. MT is really too easy on nonresident hunters and yes I am one. One cheap license for the whole season and allowing “professional “ trainers all the time and access. Other states don’t offer that good of a deal. Those dog trailers and big...

    Said yes to another dog!

Congrats, my wife has hunted with me for decades. She also is a better dog trainer than me.

    Muddy paws in house.

My wife and I used to fight that, using a stack of old towels by the door. As so many of our dogs have passed over the years we could care less now. All carpet is gone and mostly tile and hardwood, it does help that I was a flooring contractor, but their lives are too short to complain about them.

    Heads up fishing nuts

It is looking like this will be a monumental year for red salmon fishing on the Kenai. Projected low returns of king salmon will shut the set netters down and a potential listing of the kings with the endangered species act could shut the drift fleet down. There will be no way to stop the hordes...

Here's what I got my dad for Christmas

I remember that beer. Drank it as a kid growing up in Wisconsin, do they still make it?

    Tools?

Cable cutters, I had a dog get caught in a snare and I still have nightmares. I was fortunate because he was well trained and quit struggling because I didn't have a cutters at that time. Today on a poop break I have a cutters handy. Forceps because of quills, thinking back I think this was one...
