When was the golden age of pheasant hunting?

I guess that is where you are referring to. My relatives would say the soil bank days in the Dakotas. If you look at the harvest records they are probably right. For me when CRP first started going those were the prime days. Late 80s, 90s were unbelievable. The early 00s were good also. Since...

Solar Farms = Habitat Destruction ?

I was in a parking lot in Az where that was the case. Seemed great, cooler under the panels in the shade and provided a benefit. However I did see several signs about cleaning pigeons shit off panels.

    Velociraptors vs. ice

Mushers use dog boots which is a never ending battle. I watched the start of the Iditarod a few years ago and the trail was lined with them. Personally I use pad toughner unless there is an abrasion than new skin and as a last resort bring out boots.

    AZ quail

Well I’m probably not the best source since this is the first year I have really tried it. Anyway the talk in the campground where I’m staying is the bird numbers are down. One outfit said they have been coming here for 26 years and it is the worst they have seen it. Me not knowing squat move a...

    Short guys

Once again a post from Goose has me going WTF. I’m glad that when I hunted the Hi Line this year I only drank bottled water and craft beer, can’t be too careful.

Best day in a long time!!

Kind of what I’m finding. I’ve lost a couple runners even with good dogs. Lots of miles between covies. The good news is the campgrounds are pretty empty. People hunt a couple days and leave.

    Tripping or Falling

I’m 73, I have no idea how many times I have fallen this year. It’s more every year, but I can still crawl up so I guess it is okay.

    Future of CRP ?

It will be a wild ride the next 4years. CRP may be cut and the tariffs if they happen could result in retaliation from overseas buyers of grain crops making CRP look good again. I imagine a lot of farmers are loosing sleep with worry. Planning in the near future will be tough.

I’m short a lot of CRP is chest high. And yes you can train a dog to still work that close. Might be why us retriever guys look for that cover.

    Time for another e collar!!

Been using Sport Dog since, well a long time. Pretty darn easy to use and dependable. I haven’t gone to ones with GPS location as the tone almost always brings my dogs back insight, if not a slight jolt does the job.

Might be a local thing. When we formed our Golden club in Alaska and were coming up with a name Midnight Sun Swamp Collies was a top contender. I think it is a good natured ribbing. Today in some venues in AK Goldens outnumber Labs. Might be an Alaskan thing, all dog people in AK know what a...

Yes,but I use it as a badge of honor. The black lab people would always have negative comments about our dogs at hunt tests. Now not so much. When I leave the line after a success I will comment to some of the older black lab people how I now need to go blow dry my dog. Something they used to...

In your opinion, how many public land pheasants in the bag would make for a successful season?

Back 20 or 30 years ago when I was working full time and got a week to fly to the lower 48 and hunt it was an unusual day I did not shoot a limit every day. All public. Now retired I go out when I feel like it and am back at the trailer usually before dark. I seldom shoot a limit and seldom...

Some do and some don’t. E-collar would help, but in the field they get pretty sneaky. Are they working on a bird scent or snarking down a deer turd? Got a 15 year old who still does it, pisses me off, but she still puts birds up. I nail her when it is obvious but she still sneaks in a mouth full.
