    Gas Prices

I think we are up to $4.69 , paid $4.47 a few days ago. Leaving for outside(lower 48) in a few days . Spent $200 and it wasn't a fillup on the Alcan last year and expect it will be no different this year.

Why is deer hunting so popular?

I grew up in the 50s and 60s in Wisconsin. Deer camp was mostly for drinking and playing cards. Deer were shot, generally any deer and usually a result of a drive. These people grew up in the depression and horns meant nothing. Times change and lifestyles change. Guess people need to hang...

    Climate change frustration

That is one of the reasons I don't come down until there has been some frost, that and snakes.

    Montana

Well duh. MT offers a license for the whole season for one price. Your neighbors make nonresidents buy a few days at a time. Then MT has a lot, a really lot of land in block management plus a lot of state and federal also. The pros bring truckloads of dogs to train there and then give them back...

How often do you encounter the law?

Once in ND, never in SD or Nebraska and multiple times in MT, sometimes 3 or more times in the same year. I believe I didn't get checked at home in AK this year usually get checked multiple times while fishing even boarded in rough water while out in the salt.

Again guys you are rookies for distance. But I got smarter last year and stashed a trailer in MT so only half my trip will involve pulling a trailer.

At what point do you retire your dog?

I have a golden that will be 15 in Feb. I hunted her a lot last year. She got the small honey hole covers that the youngsters would race through. The youngsters got the cat tail sloughs and big crp fields. She looks like she can make it through a few more short walks this year, we'll see.

Will SD GFP get back to basics?

    Ugh. I'm sorry I asked.

Will SD GFP get back to basics?

Huh? What? Will someone fill me in. Remember I come from the end of the road and I don't get the lower 48 gossip often.

    Gas Prices

$4.47 to $4.69 in town. Consider this it is pumped out of the ground within 20 miles of my house and refined about 40 miles away. They claim we don't qualify for volume discounts here.

    Porcupines On The Prairies

In MT and ND I run into porkies every year. Some dogs learn to avoid them others like an old female of mine get at least one quill pulling session every year. Not so many in SD, but more skunks.

    More pheasants than ever before!!

I’d jump at a stone sheep hunt for 10. Back in the 90s when I sheep hunted I knew of nonresidents paying over 20 for a Dall sheep hunt.

    MT Non Residents Bill

Now that is interesting. Wouldn’t have thought as I have seen corn planted farther west than 20 years ago.

    More pheasants than ever before!!

Occasionally I will get social and put 2 dogs down at once, but mostly just me and one dog. I did a few drives when I was younger but matured out of them maybe 30 years ago. Or maybe it is because I've outlived my friends or pissed all of them off and they want nothing to do with me. I don't...

    Hayes Center/McCook Area

Skipped last year because the year before was really bad. Friends who went said last year was horrible. However we hunted public mainly. The good news we saw very few hunters and our friends who went last year said they saw hardly any hunters at all. Total lack of birds kept hunters away.

    Let's Bitch (Can't Hunt)

Usually not and the cover will be thick. That said I usually take a walk and listen to the dog put up grouse in the cover that I can't see into. Dog appreciates it and I enjoy it. I usually don't get excited till mid Sept or after the first frost, in the interior that can happen a couple weeks...

    Let's Bitch (Can't Hunt)

Yep. I have had landowners ask me where I was from and comment that as long as it wasn’t Mn I should be okay.

    Let's Bitch (Can't Hunt)

Wrong guess. I haven’t had any negative run ins with hunters from that state. I should keep track as people guess. I should state the majority of my hunting is in SD,ND AND MT, although I have dabbled in other states.
