Pay to Play rates in SD

Having hunted release sites in Washington state the majority of my life, my trips to North Dakota bring immense pleasure. While we may not limit every day we see so much beauty in the area and the wild flushes make this pure enjoyment. I try not to knock anyone who would pay to hunt on areas...

    Gas Prices

We too just returned from North Dakota. Fuel prices were about 3.59/3.79. Got back to Washington state and the prices have once again risen. State average is over 5 bucks again. Not happy with our current leadership in this state as well as the federal government.

    ND pheasant planting

NODak from Everything I’ve seen and read has no public “releases”. There are plenty of birds and opportunities throughout the state without pen raised birds. That said, I’d assume their are some private grounds where put and take programs exist. just came back from NODak last week. Good numbers...

    Gas Prices

Do NOT under any circumstances come to Washington state and expect any type of relief from fuel prices. Our state has some of the highest fuel taxes and our worthless PO-S governor has done all he can to make life miserable for working folks. Fuel prices are well over 5 bucks throughout and...

    Where would you go?

Depending on how far north you want to travel, just came back from North Dakota last Friday. Very good hunting in the southwest corner and the northwest corner of the state. last year was the first year the state allowed electronic posting in conjunction with old fashion paper no hunting/ no...

    OnX

Actually, quite the opposite. While I just got it not that long ago it did appear to load slowly. Seems though there have been some updates and in my iPhone it’s actually run very well. Just came back from North Dakota Friday and it was a breeze to use, add way points and track our hunts. For me...

    IC CHOKE

Agreed. Patterning any shotgun along with the type of shell, choke you expect to use in the field truly benefits the hunter. Understanding where the majority of your pattern is relative to aim point. This leads To more kills. Testing looks good.

    IC CHOKE

Ya, I turkey hunt as well. You think bismuth is expensive. TSS (tungsten) will definitely take whatever extra funds you have. Thankfully, I probably shoot 1 or 2 rounds a year at around 8+ bucks a round. thankful they come in 5 and 10 round boxes. Will say the stuff is awesome at taking down...

    IC CHOKE

Nope. Not where I’m at in Washington state. Can’t hardly find anything under 25 bucks a box. If you do it typically isn’t hunting loads- well maybe dove loads 7 1/2.

    IC CHOKE

Lol. I wish steel was cheap. Not so much anymore. Retired and fixed income- bismuth is not in my budget. I would love to use lead for the rest of my life but our state has gone non-toxic on all state properties. Still plenty of areas allowing lead and I absolutely use it when possible. just...

Check Facebook hunting posts. working with a buddy in Oklahoma to find him a springer (started or young dog). I will say that you can check Craigslist as well, under community and all for sale, English springer rescue they don’t typically advertise hunting dogs. I have to springers currently...

    IC CHOKE

While I use an I/C in my Winchester SX4 12 gauge when using steel shot I’ve typically run a modified or improved modified in the field behind my springer spaniels. Typical flushing distances are a bit longer. Running lead shot (Fiocchi nicjpkel plated lead) on wild birds I’ve had great success...

    Being shot

Some days we don’t realize how lucky we are. As you could see from my pictures I took one pellet that went through the bridge of the nose right between the eyes. Fortunately no cartilage damage, and another picture had the pellet enter the back of the throat on the side and exit the front...

    Being shot

Ya, I’ve seen a few dogs shot in similar circumstances over the years. Been pelted a time or two myself. Difference was pellets raining down vs directly at. always wear blaze and always in safety glasses. I still sweat occasionaly thinking about the turkey hunt. Haven’t gone back since. Maybe...

    Being shot

The excitement of the moment seeing movement, but then not following through to verify your shot. Yes, I’m just glad it all ended the way it did. It could have been much worse.

    Being shot

A bit long and not directly related to upland hunting. (Turkey hunting) Date 4/16/2019 - time 6:30am - current weather, warm and sunny- Location Chewelah, Wa. My partner and I were standing on a logging road about 6:30 am in the morning. We had been hunting and eventually walked up a logging...

    Opening Fixed Choke?

About 2 years ago I had a similar issue. Have an older 1100 20 gauge remington with full choke. really like the gun but shooting steel out of it in full choke really was too tight. A search online and found a place in Michigan Odenthals gunsmithing. sent the barrel in. They reamed it out and...

    IC CHOKE

Definitely agree. Started years ago with I/C choke. While I took birds down hunting behind my springer I found I was chasing down a fair amount of wounded birds. Over the years I’ve changed as I became a better shot to modified in my 12 ga. and improved mod or full in my 20 ga. Of course this is...

    Holster

I’d guess it really depends on whether a person has issues carrying all day in the field. I’ve seen a few guys use em over the years but you may have a point.

    Holster

Went on eBay and they do make a holster that the buttstock of your shotgun is designed to fit into for carrying in the field. 254630603520 this is the eBay item number you can put into the search box and find a picture. The holster mounts to your belt and is about 30 bucks. I’ve seen a few guys...
