PSA-Loosen up that choke, or get rid of it altogether

And what are the conclusions typically? Im an average shot but I get to hunt more than most. According to my sons who I typically hunt with my estimates are short. Interesting topic.

2024 National Pheasant Fest in Sioux Fall, who is going?

I bought my final rise vest at the one in Omaha two years ago but he had to ship it to me later. I believe hes going to be there again this year and will probably be a few bucks off.

    Chicken fried.

Just tried chicken fried pheasant breast Thurs and am shocked at how well its turned out. Nothing fancy, just some vegetable oil in a frying pan and some flour seasoned with whatever I pull out of the cabinet. Im on my third batch and I added cayenne, paprika, onion powder and garlic salt to the...

    Porkie Pine

I dont know why this pic comes out so large, This was from last year in ND. This dog is 12 yrs old here and gone now [not from PP quills]. We removed these ourselves as they were almost all very easy to get at and this particular dog treated it almost as overdue attention. Not unusual to see...

    Porkie Pine

I couldve said that better. I called at 1130 and they said vet was booked until 4pm and said I could try emergency vet in Sioux Falls. I went to work with my needle nose and the dog actually cooperated realativly well and I pulled until I couldnt find anymore. Ill watch him close tonight and...

    Porkie Pine

Just an FYI to you east side hunters. My dogs got into a porcupine at Diamond Lake today. It wasnt good:mad:. It looked like about 50 a piece which is about par for these two knuckle heads but when I got to the truck and opened the young ones mouth i was shocked, looked like he tried to swallow...

    How Cold Is To Cold?

I did end up hunting last Monday and Tuesday. I dont remember the exact temps but they were below zero. Dogs did well and loved getting out! I lost my stocking hat in a grove but still had a hood but my ears got a little too cold. Still hurts to sleep on them and constant itch and tingle. I did...

SDGFP cracking down on non-resident resident licensing?

Theres no state income tax in SD either so that may entice many seniors who travel to AZfor several monhs a year to claim SD as a resident along with licensing vehicles and of course we have a lot of pheasants too:)

    How Cold Is To Cold?

Couldn't sit in the house any longer and had one I'll remember long past the last day. First bird poorly hit(I blame the gloves 😔) and the young dog did a textbook 100 yd retrieve. 2nd bird off nice double point and third, older dog wouldn't come off point so I released young dog and he dug out...

    How Cold Is To Cold?

Im sitting at home contemplating getting out there today but its currently -13* out there. Three days sitting in the house during season is driving me crazy. The dogs paws are driving them nuts though when I let them out so that probably answers that question. I know in my twenties I would be...

    Lost birds

Seeing a dog make a hard retrieve may be the pinnacle of any of my hunts and this year has been very hard with the mid season dry weather, As some have stated Ive seen at least four birds fly that 100yd + this year and suddenly fly straight up and then crumple dead. Usually a very easy retrieve...

    Kind of public land?

Ive had my best luck on the WPAs this year. Last year the crep and WIA were good also but mainly hayed this year. Dont overlook those creps that have been hayed and still have a low spot or waterway thats hard to see from the truck though! Ive got a couple of those this year that are almost...

    Crispi boots fail

    Crispi boots fail

I would put Irish Setters in the same bracket as Danners. I had the Irish setters last year and barely better results. I do put in close to 70 days a year upland hunting but looking for better. I would gladly spend the money if I thought I could get three years.

    Pudelpointer and Drahthaar comparisons please

Best description of the two I've seen. Both can be\usually are great dogs. Breed standards are strict to a fault for the DDs which is good for us all. Id definitely go DD as far as coat maintenance goes but it again can vary litter to litter.

    Pro vs. Cons

I have two Drahts (wirehairs). Pros, mine have fairly tight coats (Ff for the german breed standard) that are zero maintenance besides beard as far as far as burrs go. Their endurance is unlimited and retrieving as good as any lab Ive owned. Will literally out hunt any person Ive ever hunted...
