Thanks, we could create an excel spreadsheet. The spreadsheet is fun for tracking year to year stats but the journal is good for tracking memories.

@Miforester - Very good way of recording memories. I too, started keeping a log a few years ago a year or two after my oldest son started hunting with me. We have yet to keep the spreadsheet but I keep abbreviated notes of who we hunted with, location, and birds harvested. Sometimes misses and...

A jake or a hen is more suitable for plucking. A tom I would just pluck the breast.

Not at all, but the other guy also was comparing them to a “thanksgiving bird”. ;) I like the thighs and leg meat in a soup or slow cooked in a pulled bbq recipe. The meat will fall off the tendons. The breasts simply cut into 6-8oz size pcs olive oil, garlic, salt and pepper on the grill...

I’ve never had one I didn’t like, depends how you cook them. Brine and/ or marinate helps. You have to cook the parts (breasts/ thighs/ legs) separately, this isn’t a farm raised bird. Many good tips from wild game chefs out there.

September dove hunting.

Boresnake through the barrel 2-3x and an exterior wipe down after shooting. I waterfowl hunt also so the guns get disassembled and oiled as needed (typically 3-5x a year). Benellis / Franchis.

Good recommendation. I made the vegetables, pheasant, stock, and rice separately, then mixed towards the end.

Try a salt water brine and/ or marinade before cooking. Helps a lot. Don’t overcook.
