    2024/2025 Pheasant Hunting Videos

I haven't seen the video yet, but good perseverance attitude! I've been on that bus for the last 2.5 seasons, due to a gun change. Although we're normally able to find enough birds to make up for the low shooting percentage, it is still frustrating. Some recent changes I made *might* get me...

Warmest supple gloves for 15 degree weather

I saw this mentioned recently on here. I made a mental note to try it out on the next cold hunt. I have used them for years, when deer hunting, for me and my daughters (on our toes). I use mitten-gloves, where the built in glove part is a very thin liner. There is a zipper pocket on the back...

    Young Birds

What part of the state? Minnesota and Eastern SD have fewer 1st year birds (than usual) due to the rains in the spring (at least that has been my experience). Bringing home one of the old boys is definitely a feather in the cap (pun possibly intended). Even without human pressure, I wonder...

    How tough are these birds?

The answer would appear to be "extremely".

    2024/2025 Pheasant Hunting Videos

:ROFLMAO: Good to know. Whenever I get around to publishing my videos, they should be darn "interesting". You're a very good shot, but it's good to know you're human.

    2024/2025 Pheasant Hunting Videos

I noticed he rarely misses (or rarely publishes his misses). I don't always keep up on the videos, but I believe I saw a rare miss on the latest video. It didn't seem to affect the end of the day results though -- 3 birds appears to be the norm. I think I need to hunt around more white cows.

He is suggesting/hinting/joking that you were at a game farm/preserve, where they drive you to the fields in busses, to shoot pen raised birds. 😛 But hey, those pen raised birds are tasty too. Legs are just a bit underdeveloped.

Did the ice survive in pheasant country this past weekend?

Good point. If I know (or think) a slough is that shallow, I am not as concerned about hunting it. It might ruin my hunt to go through, but as long as I don't go over my head, I should be able to get out. Maybe also a good idea to carry ice safety pics in our vests though. A 5-6 foot deep...

Did the ice survive in pheasant country this past weekend?

Agreed. The shallow sloughs with plenty of muskrat huts (although as mentioned above, don't want to get too close to the huts), don't scare me as much, since I figure the chances of going over my head are lower. It is the ones where I don't know the depth and I am a ways from shore, in...

Did the ice survive in pheasant country this past weekend?

Also a reminder that refrozen ice isn't as strong as first frozen. A lot of the stuff I was walking on last week already had some amount of refreeze in it though.

Did the ice survive in pheasant country this past weekend?

My only guess is they like ice fishing as much as many of us like pheasant hunting. I suppose if we had to cross ice in order to access pheasants, we might be tempted to push it.

They should be trying to stay in the edges of the cattails with those conditions.

More than 50% of the time, half my brain says I can't shoot. It isn't until the opportunity has passed that the other side of my brain calls the other side a nincompoop, and reminds him that nearly 100% of our ruffed grouse shots are through brush. The first half sometimes comes back with...

Did the ice survive in pheasant country this past weekend?

I saw 2 people out on Clear Lake, south of Forest Lake, when I was driving up I-35, on Sunday afternoon. I shouldn't be surprised, but didn't expect that. Even in the sloughs, on Friday, I was a bit hesitant to walk in the middle of the more open patches. Of course, sloughs have hot spots...

    Let's talk cattail strategies

Agreed, but I will say that I do find the occasional batch that fights back, trying to impale me when walking against the direction of blow downs. They don't have a lot of ethics when it comes to tripping tactics either. And don't get me started on the fuzz choking strategy some employ. For...

    Old school

If you were, you would have let the first rooster go in your last video hunt (memorial), so you could triple with the big flush instead of merely ending with a double.
