    Which Barrel First For Over/Under

So I felt the same way but got a unpleasant surprise when I broke the action barely enough to reload the top barrel and then it didn't recock. I did it 3x just to validate what was happening.

    Remember Poly Chokes?

I have 1 on my 50 year old 870 wingmaster magnum. I have never patterned it and don't know if it would make a difference if I tightened or loosened it. Unlike the previous 5(?) Buttstocks if it ain't broke don't fix it. My hunting buddies all give me shit about how rough it is but I shoot it...

    Lab guys sorry but....

NAVHDA Utillity requires a dog search a body of water for a blind retrieve. No hand signals,no whistles just the original send. The dog is judged on a thorough search. Invitational/VC requires some long marks , doubles and blind retrieves I believe. I haven't participated in that event. You...

    Lab guys sorry but....

Of course I do if it is safe to do so. Do you shoot birds that flush to your left when your flushing dog is to your right?

    Lab guys sorry but....

Interesting that you bring up MH level of standards. You do realize most labs aren't able to do those? By the same standard MH in pointing dogs aren't allowed guidance,whistles/hand signals.

Pointing to far/ not moving in on running birds.

So here is my take away Pen raised birds are a small part of the problem. The real problem is the dog is still gun sensitive and has learned to point away from the gunfire. You may have accidentally taught the dog this while training to overcome the same problem. The only fix will be going back...

    Lab guys sorry but....

And I might add I have a friend who hunts more then I do( he hunts a lot) with GSPs. He wants his dogs to run big so he stays out of the cattails or his dogs are just busting birds because they want to charge out then hunt back. He has no interest in being in the junk. I take my dogs into the...

    Lab guys sorry but....

This is 1 of my favorite pictures of my dogs because of the context. Female is on point , male is backing ,and my best dog is coming back as if to say those birds are gone. He already checked it out.

    Lab guys sorry but....

I keep a eye on my dogs the best I can. I use vibrate and tone to get them to check back or hold if on scent. I try and keep them within 40 yards of me or someone else in or out of the thick stuff. We all do it enough that the dogs know what is expected of them. Newbies I take out hunting...

    How the Birds learn?

Wild pheasants try many things to escape danger(us). Someone asked about pointers being able to pin/point educated birds? I believe whatever has worked for the bird in the past is what they do=learned behavior. I have shot many birds over points where the bird was holding on the edge of cover...

Pointing to far/ not moving in on running birds.

As I read the original post dog won't reposition without coaxing. Dog may be bird or gun shy. Gimrius you already have bashed 3 breeds so..... have a nice day.😉

    Lab guys sorry but....

I started the thread and have not bashed labs. I have seen many posts here bashing pointers.

    Lab guys sorry but....

So to refute a few I'll informed members. I have seen more fat hunters with fat labs then any other pairing. Versatiles can do multiple tasks including hog hunting. Like someone said look for the breeder/breeding you want. I and my friends hunt with multiple dogs on the ground not because we...
