I have a Q5 San Carlos. Great vest. My only complaint is it is difficult to reach around and put a bird in the vest. No front load. I have not ordered anything from them since 2016 until the other day. I ordered two water bottles. I have a tracking number and it is in transit so maybe I...
Hence the eye roll…. That’s the exact point I was making. Yet people still think it is because they see more of their predator of choice. Sure they get some but they’ve always been around. Of course it’s habitat. I was being a bit sarcastic.
The hawks, coons, armadillos, raccoons , etc… are the reason we don’t have birds in northeast Oklahoma anymore. It isn’t the endless seas of Bermuda and fescue.
Humans have short memories. One thing I've thought about is with 2011 and 2012 Kansas pheasant population was entering that drought coming off of very good numbers and have never returned. That is not the case this time around.
Down here north of Tulsa we had well over an inch around 9/1. Not a drop since. Can’t even tell we got that now. Humidity is around 18 percent most afternoons. It does feel nice out now. I do think we had a fair bobwhite hatch down here considering the conditions.
That’s not what I was referring to. I was referring to extreme drought conditions and everything dried up. There hasn’t been ample CRP for several years. Even the corners we hunt that were left alone didn’t look very thick.
Drove the back roads through Kiowa, Edwards, and Pratt Counties over the last two days. Killed a few doves. Did not see a pheasant and I was out and about at dawn and dusk. Saw two fresh sets of tracks (pheasant) near a puddle I was sitting on. Few areas of decent habitat-mostly corners that...
I remember driving out west a few years ago and thinking man we are wasting our time. Once we got west of Pratt they were thick. Didn’t see many until about that point. Man we had a blast. Hope everyone has a good time this weekend. I’ll be hunting a small spot here tomorrow and Friday and...
I’ve killed a few roosters around Kaw lake over the years while quail hunting. Don’t see as many as I used to but back when the turkey hunting was great there, you’d hear them crowing all morning long.… early 2000s.
Yep.
just to keep a shred of optimism with everyone, I thought my quail hunting days were over after 2012. Following the great drought our bobwhites rebounded and we had some phenomenal hunting in 2013 through about 2016 or so…
I only Make that trip now cause we have some private corners to hunt. Kill a few every year. I’d never drive up there just for WIHA…and my drive is only 4.5 hours. It’s been a very long time since it was really good. Heading up next weekend to dove hunt. We will see if the corners have been...
