NEWS FLASH: Drought ends at Ponderosa

Wow, getting some good, unexpected rain. Hopefully it keeps the farmers out of the fields and from cutting grass. And it cooled off those chicks. Update .60 looks like we might get a little more.

Benelli Montefeltro 12 Gauge 26 Inch Barrel

I have a new model Benelli Montefeltro 12 Gauge 26 Inch barrel walnut stock I am wanting to sell. I bought it new last fall and hunted about a dozen times with it. Less than a box of shells. Cabela's has them for $1399. I would take $1000 for it plus shipping.

Real feel 112 here today. Early harvest and extreme heat is a bad combination.

NEWS FLASH: Drought ends at Ponderosa

Combines are rolling today. At this rate harvest will be over before we wanted it to start. Not good for young chicks. About 10 days earlier than normal.

    Quail hunting Southeast Kansas

Today's habitat is so much different than it was 60 years ago. SEK is hardly recognizable to what it was in the 60's and 70's. Old homesteads have disappeared, hedge rows are extinct, there is more cattle, more crops, and less native grass. There are other factors as well, but habitat is the key.

    Quail hunting Southeast Kansas

70's to mid 80's were pretty damn good everywhere. 20 coveys a day pretty common. We didn't really hunt singles, just moved on to the next covey. Soy Beans were the best food source. Fescue and glyphosate seemed to lead to the demise. But ultimately it is farming that dooms wildlife. Only...

    Lab guys sorry but....

I hunted some strip pits in 60 ft deep water on a -5 degree day. It was the last of the water to freeze, rivers were froze, marshes froze, etc. My labrador hunted just like it was 60 degrees. We hunted about 1.5 hours that day before we shot a limit of mallards. That was right before...

    Which Benelli Ultralight?

Looking at Benelli's web site, the Ultra Light has been replaced with the Montefeltro Ultra Light. 5.3 lbs for the 20 gauge with a 24 inch barrel and a $1949 MSRP

    Which Benelli Ultralight?

The new Montefeltro is a much better gun. Just as light, a much slimmer feel, improved inertia system, and less recoil. And probably a $100 or so less.
