    MN report

Just ignore goose, he hits every state thread to stir the pot. Not sure why he is even on here, contributes nothing of value just offers up opinions that are juvenile takes. I have access to alot of acres in western Mn and if you have the habitat you have birds.

Opening weekend and Monday, Shocked!!! Kimball, Chamberlain, Platte area.

Keep in mind it was not in all areas but I do know around Pukwana and north of kimball they definitely got hit with the heavier rains. I will be out here bring in a few weeks and will report back. I was out in early fall and I do know there are more birds in my area than last year. I kind of...

Opening weekend and Monday, Shocked!!! Kimball, Chamberlain, Platte area.

Keep in mind if you are north of I90 in the area you mentioned, that prime week of hatch some places had north of 9 inches of rain. I am south of I90 and rain totals were not as bad, and I expect to see 250 to 300+ per day. If we get weather and they group up, I will see more.

    Regent hunting

This whole pay to play thing has been hashed out a million times on this forum. It costs money to provide habitat. Do you pay to golf? If you don’t want to pay that’s your choice. He’s trying to offset his expenses, can’t blame him.

    Passing through SD…Pheasants Galore

Here is a boots on the ground report. I have been in South Central, Sd the last 2 days and will be out here a few more. Been driving morning and evening prime time and the birds appear to be up quite a bit in my area I hunt. Saw several different hatches. An average morning I would see well...

    Winter Scouting

Sounds like a good piece of ground Remy. My land is 45 acres CRP, 2 shelter belts, 30 acre slough (no cattails, which hurts me for winter cover, not great cover in the slough) and the balance 10 acres of food plots, and the remainder is tillable ground.

    Winter Scouting

Remy, how much CRP do you have? Is it mostly warm season grasses?

    Land prices.

Just frustrated what I see going on, high land prices kick out the small family farms and going the way of corporate, which in turn has a direct impact on quality habitat.

    Land prices.

Quick question, good farm ground in Iowa is going for what 15-20K per acre (maybe that’s low) remy3424 could tell us. What price does corn/beans need to be at to make that number work? And what about the years of drought, hail etc.,? I get there is insurance, but How long does it take to...

    Land prices.

Part of the land inflation is the grain farmers can’t lose. With insurance and farm programs you will not see farms lost. Case in point, we here about input costs and you see 3.50 bushel corn, yet the large combines are being purchased. Don’t take this as me being not in favor of the farmer...

    Overall season bird numbers

I thought bird numbers were down quite a bit, Hunted north of Platte. Not sure why , the spring was decent…. Perhaps last years winter got them.

    Well said…

    Kind of public land?

Goose, with public lands being hammered that is why you pay to hunt private ground (LOL)

    Getting Good Rain

I could write a book on the migration in western Minnesota. 20 years ago it was easy to scout, find birds and shoot a limit of Mallards. My family now has a place out there with access to all the land I want and I literally have had 1 good mallard hunt in 5 years…. Granted, I can’t get out...

    Getting Good Rain

So true, there are less hunters but even fewer places that hold birds. Minnesota waterfowl is a perfect example. Years ago you could shoot ducks about anywhere in the state, and now the birds are condensed in a few areas. Hunting pressure is just congregated now. It all comes down to quality...

    Food plots

The ground is located in South Dakota. The trees are cedar trees and provide great winter cover. I have some ideas on food plots for next year, so should be set. Thanks!

    Food plots

Food plots are next to trees , sloughs and CRP. Food plots are definitely for the birds to get through winter but I hunt them as well.
