So you want to hunt public land in South Dakota?

I really wish the state could purchase some land with habitat stamps. I see property that ducks unlimited purchased and put easements on them and sell them once easements in place. I think these would be awesome land purchases by the state for cheap compared to what land is goi g for now.

How can they hay this much public ground

103,000 x 125 average license cost is just under 13 million. 62,000 x 125 is just under 8 million. If I were losing 5 million a year I’d do something different.

How can they hay this much public ground

I sure do miss the pheasant counts! I think that was the first thing SD to eliminate honesty and transparency with hunters. Like many of you said we go to South Dakota no matter what but it’s nice to have an idea what to expect. Instead of doing counts they put that money into marketing. 😉

    Thanksgiving Hunt

I flew out on Friday the 19th into Sioux Falls and my dad picked me up. He was already in South Dakota and hunted a couple days before I got there. We stayed in Mitchell and should've could've had limits every day we hunted. Saturday we went north of Mitchell and ended up with 3 roosters. Missed...

    Nice hunt Saturday

Long time ago I was working at a duck club in Colusa, CA. I can save the conversation for another day but this place was amazing. Anyways, I learned a lesson back then about dog training. People yell and scream at their dogs and then get even more upset when they feel the dogs are not listening...

    Cabelas Mitchell SD

N i agree with you. Paying that much money for shells is insane but when we travel to South Dakota we pay gas hotel food license etc. what’s an extra $20 for a box of shells to do something we wait all year to do. I have checked all my sporting good stores here all summer and fall and nothing...

I know people don’t like to give away their spots but what area of the state were you hunting jmuller19? I head out to SoDak the 20th and just trying to get an idea where to start. Sounds like from the first post north central is a little tough.

I’m jealous and miss living in South Dakota. I was a teacher and it was nice to go for a short walk after school.

If You think about it if you walk the perimeter of a section that’s 4 miles. That’s pretty easy to do in a morning and afternoon walk to get 8 miles. I know when I go to SoDak I usually get 20,000 plus steps a day.

    Se sd lodging/camping

I don’t hunt SE part of the state much but from my experience you can usually find a cheap motel for $55 a night. Last year I stayed in Mitchell and talked to a guy in parking lot that told me they did well hunting somewhere between Yankton and Mitchell. They drove quite a distance from the...
