Is this doable in December? I'm not familiar with the terrain or weather up in SD but I think this is something I'd like to do.

Yeah we hit the fields as soon as the sun comes up in KS. It's going to be weird having to wait until 10am on our SD trip this year.

I hunted them in the fall for 2 seasons and never even got a glimpse of one.

If only I had no other prior commitments...

Gotcha. I'm making my first trip up this winter and am planning on stationing in Winner and just seeing what happens. Plan on hunting any available public lands (not much around I see) and ditches. Taking my father in law and he loves to road hunt so should be fun.

15 years old and he can still hunt? How often and how well does he do?

Sounds like a rule that can't really be enforced.

I have the Pro 550+ and the Alpha and I prefer the 550+. I just don't want to be messing with a touch screen in the field and the 550+ gives you the ability to instantly see where your dog is while still having the simple remote for tone or vibrate/stim.

You'll probably want to elaborate a little more on what it is exactly you're looking for.

I don't necessarily see a problem with anything he said as long as he's able to retrieve the majority of the birds without a dog. A lot of people road hunt and take long shots and most everyone shares limits when hunting in groups.

I'm not sure that orange would have made a difference in that situation. I don't hunt with anyone I don't trust for this very reason. A bird isn't worth anyone's dog.
