A raised top would almost be a requirement for me if I had a Tacoma haha

    Truck caps

I don't blame you. I'd love to have a drawer system like that for hunting, but I use my truck for a lot of different things and need the space for other things around the house. Now if I could have 2 trucks, one rigged purely for hunting and another for work, you bet I'd have a drawer system.

    Uninsulated Boots??

I'm a big believer in you get what you pair for out of a pair of boots. For my heavy mileage boots, I'll splurge on a spendy pair. That's not to say I don't have cheaper pays around as shit kickers though. I have goofy feet and have tried alot of different boots and for whatever reason, my...

    Truck caps

I got a LEER 100XR about 3 or 4 years ago and like it. ARE and LEER are pretty equal build quality wise but around here I got a better deal on the LEER. I kept the standard sliding side windows with the screens. For add ons I went with the carpeted headliner, mostly for condensation as I've...

In Field Dog First Aid Kit

I'm working on putting together an in field dog first aid kit that would go in a small pouch on my bird vest. Curious what sort of things you guys use or recommend here. I already have a full on first aid kit that I got from Gun Dog Supply that has all the goodies in it, but that's obviously...

    prairie chicken

I'm hoping I can get picked this year too but I just got picked last year so I don't have any hopes for it. I'll probably head north into the sharpie zone for a few days this fall because I like hunting the prairie up there too.

    food

I feed mine Diamond Naturals. I used to feed Purina Pro Plan, but when COVID was going on and the supply chain was all jacked, the price went from around $45-$50 a bag to $90. That's when I switched to Diamond. Diamond rose there price about $5 back then, Pro Plan has kept their price around the...

    Good hunting dog vet

Also to make note of is their hours in an emergency situation. A lot of vets are closed Sundays. I had a dog that hit barbed wore a few years ago and of course it happened on Sunday, so I ended up having to look online and call around to find one that was open. The vet I used then was in Clear...

How often do you hunt pheasants?

I get out pheasant hunting specifically about 10 days a year, up to 15 if I take an out of state trip. But a good 10 days here in my home state. If I could count all the other birds I hunt, I'd be around 25 days or so. But I won't count those so I don't get scolded by A5 😂

    2024 Spring Turkey Hunt

I'm just an Osceola away from my slam, don't know if I'll ever get to Florida for one. Maybe some day. I need to get a Tom Merriam. Only Merriam I shot was a Jake. It counts but it's like shooting a spike buck, it's a deer but not something to brag about or put on the wall haha

    2024 Spring Turkey Hunt

Hybrids are almost impossible to tell in the wild. Main thing to look for when targeting a Rio in country where a Merriam can also be found is the tail fan and the wings. The fan on a Rio will be more buff colored. Cream/tannish. Whereas a true Merriam will have that snow white fan. The wing...

Looking to add a gsp in the future

Don't be intimidated on testing requirements. I'm assuming the requirements are to run a NAVHDA Natural Ability test? If so, the NA test is pretty simple to train for and is something anyone that has a versatile dog should train on. Not saying everyone needs to or should test, but what you train...

    2024 Spring Turkey Hunt

I do the same on public ground. Only time on public ground I use a blind is bow hunting to conceal the draw. I prefer being mobile and sitting next to a tree. Just feels like turkey hunting.

    Water in the field...

What I've found helps with my dog drinking right out of the bottle, is try and hold the bottle slightly above a 90 degree angle. If her head has to get too vertical, too much gets on her muzzle, at a 90 degree angle it's like drinking out of a garden hose for them. Still get the occasional...

    Feeding Time

Is eating anything in sight a lab thing? My dad had 2 labs when I was growing up, they were the same way. Food was devoured when it hit the bowl. Meanwhile both of my dogs, there's food in their bowl pretty much all day long as they just graze feed.

    Water in the field...

What I do is I have a plastic milk crate which fits four, 1 gallon jugs perfectly. I just use old milk gallon jugs that I've rinsed out, fill each one and keep them in the crate and have the crate at the back of the truck. I keep my collapsible dog bowl in the crate too. Easy to grab just one...
