    Let’s see em.

That is why I hunt them. Once I think I’ve got them figured out, I’m wrong.

    Let’s see em.

That was Saturday. CRP is where I find them. Limited out on Sunday as well. Huge covey flush of better than 20 birds..

    Hayed Fields

Took a scouting ride into SW NE on Saturday to check out some of my opening day public ground haunts. I was greatly disappointed as 7 of my favorite spots were hayed or tilled. Standing corn, sourgum, and milo everywhere but little to no cover. Seems that quite a few of the properties were...

    Colorado Blues

They’re not blues but took our limit of Sage Grouse Saturday morning. One very large covey, four shots, and finished before 7:30am. Kind of glad it was quick as it got hot early. Scrubbed a chance for a blue hunt. Never want to over heat a dog.

    Colorado Blues

Good job Chessie. We got out for the 14th annual hill climb on Sept 1st. We covered about 5 miles and of course like usual got into two coveys 1/2 mile from the truck. I doubled on the first covey rise with a picked up spare on the second covey. My hunting partner did exactly the opposite.

Question on e-collar and wounds on a dogs neck

I’ve had that problem as well with my Springer. I’ve noticed it seems to happen when he is wet. I’m assuming the charge is burning the skin when there is moisture involved. I try and use vibrate as much as possible but occasionally he need a gentle reminder.

    Dog Chest and Legs Protector

I believe Sylmar makes something for rear leg protection.

Recent Footage from my 2 Day Solo Pheasant Hunting trip

Good video Kiva. Looks like the snow bunched the birds up. Glad to see you had some luck.

    Scaled Quail Success Footage!

It is not an easy task this year. Birds have been wary and tough getting on close enough for a shot. I have some old footage I took years ago then tried working with the camera again last year. Either the birds were jumping in front of my partner or I forgot to turn it on. I just went back...

    Scaled Quail Success Footage!

Kiva, Another great video. Sorry your GoPro died. Would have been neat to see some scalies crash on screen. Looks like you’ve found a good spot. Keep them coming.

    Colorado Scaled Quail Hunting Footage

Kansas has been good to us this year. We’ve seen a number of birds but mostly in pockets. Guided a friends 14yo son and helped him kill his first wild rooster. I owe a story or two to the forum.

    Colorado Scaled Quail Hunting Footage

Good video. Looks like you had a great day. Glad to see you weren't joined by any of the local buzz worms.

Mixed Bag - Our Opening Day

Another great video! Looks like your opener was a good one. I like seeing quail. I run into a few coveys a year but I just let them fly. Neat little bird.

    Opening day

I drove home from Kansas on Sunday mid day. I spotted only one group of hunters in the field. Driving out on Friday I didn’t pass any bird hunters or see any campers in the usual places. Looked like turn out might have been light off of Highway 36.

    Sage Grouse

Sorry you weren’t able to make it out. I have some BLM spots that seem to hold birds. I also scout a bit during the summer months. That seems to help find them come opening day.

    Sage Grouse

Haven’t hunted out by Craig since the mid 90’s. Just too far to trek over there. How are the birds outside of Craig? North Park seems to have a descent population and probably due to increased habitat restoration and the shortened season.

    Sage Grouse

I wouldn’t say they get pressured much. I don’t think they are terribly popular as they don’t always taste very good. We saw a total of four other people. A lot of people just drive the roads and try to catch them crossing. You can find birds that way but you’ll burn a lot of gas. Generally...

    Sage Grouse

Thanks Kiva. I'm glad you enjoy my stories. You should hunt both! Either would be great with your lab. Sage grouse tend to like flat areas. You will walk many miles without any nearby water sources to find them. It can be hard on both dogs and hunters. You'll have to carry a lot of...

    Sage Grouse

Depends on the what we think winter and spring conditions were. We hunt both North Park area and the West over by Craig. Since the season is short we can only really hit one spot.
