    Getting Ready...

Recall walking inside Andy's grove, caught my foot on something and down I went, landing on a log or rock with my left shoulder...rotator cuff surgery followed! At 84 falling is more frequent - feet seem to gravitate to the big holes. Of course I'm not watching where I walk...too busy watching...

    Dog teeth cleaning?

My Golden has been chewing a "Benebone" since he was a puppy; at 11.5 yrs, his teeth are quite healthy. We attribute that to his chewing on this bone, which is indestructible. Try it...Amazon $10.62. Occasionally I'll scale his two front teeth, but we mainly rely on the bone...

    Pointing Labs

Here's a little different take on dog's that point...my Golden had a lot of time at a game farm in his youth; the trainer I used had access to the farm so I worked out well. Max started hesitating/pointing at an early age; he now holds a point way too long and usually it's a hen. However...

What do you feed your Hunting Dog

Apparently raw eggs, for a dog, is not good-- cooked OK. Risk: salmonella infection.

Anyone adding a dog this year?

Hey George, At 84, with a Golden that will be 12 in September, I continue to contemplate another hunting friend. Can't imagine hunting without a dog, but assume my legs will tell me when the hunt is over...

    The day finally came

Tom, A fond farewell to Buddy...we spent lots of hours together with you and your friend. A few tense times with he and Max, but overall two accomplished retrievers. Won't forget when they arrived at a downed bird together and each had a piece of it and wouldn't let go...not much left of the...

Found some weed….seed in my dogs ear

4shot: Your report caught my eye...sorry to hear about your dog's ear infection. If you read some of the past discussions (here) on this issue, you'll find you are not alone. Surgery for a grass awn deep in my dog's ear was rather expensive - $4000! Hope we don't have a future episode...

    New Gloves!!!

P&L: I have a similar arrangement: Battery powered glove liners with the mittens over the liners. The mittens have a slot for hand warmers, so I include those as well. I like the idea of wool on top... Had surgery on my left ndex finger - new joint and it's really sensitive to cold...

Lots of hens - no roosters

We covered some of the same fields twice...and approached them in a different way - still lots of hens. I don't have the luxury of visiting this farm during breeding season; I'm sure it would be different...

    New Gloves!!!

I recently bought a pair of battery- powered glove liners - need to be worn with something over them. I opted for a pair of mittens that open in the middle. Have yet to try them out but I suspect the mitten will be a bit cumbersome and awkward. Getting the stock to the shoulder in cold...
