I'll second Cyclone's comment - just bought my 6th Golden; 7 month's old, with Top Brass and Brass-fire in her background. First female! MN Golden dogs are getting very expensive - might be the reason one doesn't see many? And they work very well for me and for those that hunt with me.

It's fun to watch the dog point - always enjoyed Max's points. Glad Raven is getting it figured out...flashes of brilliance! Look forward to hunting with you and Raven again one day.

I'll second G&G trimming procedure. It helps, but burr gathering is very typical and usually 45 minutes of grooming, after a day of hunting. I use hair conditioner, diluted with water, in a spray bottle. The matted weeds are almost impossible to remove get shaved.

Sounds like a reasonable approach. Here's a thought: in my experience it's far easier to refinish the entire stock ( stain to match the forend) than attempt to match a small piece. If you can find a good paint store, they could match the existing, or come close. Rockler has a stain dept that...
