Did the ice survive in pheasant country this past weekend?

It is the lure of early ice fishing and a good catch. Can be some of the best.

    Let's talk cattail strategies

Since we all empathize dog work, it kind of negates cattails. Give me creek banks or waist high CRP. There are plenty of nightmares of lost dogs in large cattail sloughs. We all appreciate a dead rooster after earned dog work. Follow your dog.

    Let's talk cattail strategies

Yes Bob, cattails are not my favorite but I have encountered them in Iowa, ND, SD, MN, WI, KS, Montana (east) and Sask. The variable is size and density. You have to go where the dog tells you. I have been blessed. Every state has required a different approach. Before CRP, Iowa was for us all...

Semi repost: what is everyone's layering system

I always carry a spare duffel bag with duplicates of everything I’m wearing plus some. Your friends might appreciate wearing the same size as you. We all are advocates of layering. Always a believer in wicking quarter zips.

    Let's talk cattail strategies

Sorry guys but the sampling pool is biased on the cattails. All of Montana vs SD vs Minnesota. I noticed the sky was bigger in Montana. How about northern cattails vs southern cattails. Right on Haymaker. 👍😊

    Eating Mice?

I like to examine the crops from roosters to get an idea what they are feeding on and give me an edge. It was Kansas, acorns. 6-7 in the crop. Looked like a goiter. Not a lot of timber around either.

    Front feet??

Like blisters from your boot, but dog boots are NOT form fitted. One size fits all? It used to take three of us to put boots on my buddy’s Lab, she fought the whole process. She was a PITA.

Abrasions will form on the dogs feet around the pads. Boot before problems. Last time I had to boot my dog was at least ten years ago. My friends Lab...

Warmest supple gloves for 15 degree weather

I generally like quality cross country ski gloves, Hot Fngers or Smartwool. Can slide in chemical heater packs if needed. Age and arthritis work against us Wolfy. Autos, pumps and double triggers are restrictive.

    Rising straight away shot

When you pull the trigger, you make that commitment to the bird to kill it. Not half dead, not half alive. Kill it or don’t take the shot.

    Rising straight away shot

Who ever sees the bead? Never in hunting, SC, trap or skeet. Don’t over think, kill it. Practice consistent gun mount. Kill it. More people should grouse hunt, instinctive shooting.

Cactus Spine in a Dogs Paw

Related issues, possible piece of thorn and localized infection called interdigital abscess. Need to remove foreign body, flush wound and antibiotics. Once healed I would suggest bandaging or boots. Common site for a puncture wounds.
