I use both a gps and a garmin e collar, which has a tone feature, I use it for turning/recall. But the tone can be heard from 20-30 yards depending on the weather.
Thank you for the advice! I have no problem driving to find the birds, we have about 5 in the entire state of Ohio it seems! Mainly in it for the experience with the dogs, both have never seen wild birds, so that's my main priority
Thank you for the advice! I just hate to drive too far to only hunt two days, but also hate to not drive far enough and waste two days! Hope everyone’s season is going well!
Any idea on bird numbers around the centralia/manhattan area? My trip is going to be cut short due to a dog injury and work restrictions unfortunately, so I am looking to change areas. Hoping to be out there next week
I use seresto collars, they work well just expensive. I tend to switch them out after 3 months as my dogs are in the water daily, and I think they get weaker as they are exposed to water.
I give mine pork chomps, supposedly safer than rawhides, and haven't had any issues. I do watch them close, and I don't let them have them for longer than 10-15 min before putting them up, helps keep their teeth clean
The lever type conibear setters work great, just a bear to carry. You can do the same with rope, I would recommend practicing first, even if it on a 110, same concept just a larger trap.
Another thing to check as well when it comes to snares/traps, most trappers connect the trap/snare to their anchor using a quick link, if you dont have a set of cutters, then you can look for a quick link to unscew
Also another question on blaze orange...the way I read the regs, blaze orange is only required for deer hunters? Am I reading this right? My vest has orange, and I usually try and throw on a orange hat, just want to make sure I am legal
Do you guys have a shell preference for a mixed bag? I shoot a 16, but will also be bringing a 20 (and possibly a 12 just in case things get even more western).
