    Water in the field...

Dog and I drink from the ditch. If it's good enough for him, it's good enough for me!

    If you wing a bird

Had a wounded bird crawl down an embankment of a river (sheer dirt cutout) and into a hole. My old Vizsla eventually tracked him and it took everything he had to go on point, nearly upside down. I am convinced to this day that the bird knew that hole was there. I cannot for the life of me...

    November Game Bird Draw

I did get invited to hunt one of these properties with a friend, whose been chosen 3x since I've known him (I have been picked zero times). Vinegar Hill just west of Earl Park, which is very near some of the private land I hunt currently. 106 acres but don't know if there is any water on that...

    November Game Bird Draw

Both private land. I have friends in Iroquois Co, IL and friends with access to land in Warren, Benton, and Newton Co's IN. I usually only hunt one state at a time, but on this trip we hunted a spot right on the state line. Got one in IL and one across the road (same ditch but different states.)...

    November Game Bird Draw

Wild Indiana Cocks. Cock on the right is from Indiana, on the left Illinois. Both taken the same day. A rare double!

Lets See Your Dogs..post some pic's

I did the WI duck opener. It wasn't warm, it was HOT! But we bagged a few ducks, had a nice cookout in the woods, drank a few beers and had a good time.

    November Game Bird Draw

For the 35th straight year I was not selected. I have never been selected. And I was not selected for the private lands hunt either. And did not get selected for the dove draw.

    Uninsulated Boots??

Boarhide with a good coating or Obenhauf's slides through thick stuff like a hot knife through cheese curds.

    Muck/Rubber Boots For Upland

Are you guys pheasant hunting in standing water or something? I don't get it. Maybe walking the cattail marsh?

    Fall gobblers

Speak for yourself. In WI I have so many damn turkeys they run the pheasants off the ground! I'm going out duck hunting this weekend (WI opener) and might try to pop a gobbler too. I know where they love to hang out. Trouble is getting close enough to shoot one.

Best way to break in new gun

Remove all lubes and re-lube with fresh. Packing grease is not the same as gun lube.

    Land prices.

Probably the best Whitetail county in the country.

Best way to break in new gun

This. The gun will not loosen up unless it sees lots of wear and tear. And by remove all the lubes, I would completely tear that gun down and remove lubes from everywhere, especially the internal cocking mechanism. Even that probably won't make much difference but needs to be done anyways.

    Must Haves?

I won't touch that stuff. The owners of Spotted Cow are raving Communists.

Midwest Pheasant Harvest - 24 Seasons

There are two variables in those numbers. The one unaccounted for is number of hunters. I can tell you where I hunt, used to be a very big and productive area but after about 1980 (claims of the big blizzard, and farming changes) the number of hunters has dropped by magnitudes. Used to be...

    Must Haves?

I'm from WI. It's a real Old Fashioned or Manhattan for me. Good booze, no syrup, soda, muddling, mixer, etc. An Old Fashioned is Whiskey, Bitters, a little of the cherry juice with a couple cherries (Luxardo or similar) and orange peel. A Manhattan is made just like a Martini, but with...

    Must Haves?

Was going to post this as well. I always bring some beer for the boys (I might have 1) and my pre-made Old Fashioned mix with orange peels and Luxardo Cherries. (Sorry, from WI and their version of an Old Fashioned sucks! too sweet, too little booze, and soda? Yuck! And bourbon or rye, not...
