Any field reports from south central nebraska?

I hunted within an hour or so south of holdrege fir a couple of days, the week of veterans day. I was able to limit on quail one day and pheasant the next. Saw good numbers of each species. Day I limited on quail moved 4 sizable coveys of 15 to 20 birds. Will say at least one covey had late...

What’s everyone using for non toxic shell’s? For pheasants

I started with Kent Bismuth in 5 or 6 in both 12 and 20 and have switched to Boss. Being from Michigan i like to support local business' and i can get them the next day and they provide a first responder discount. I liked Kent other than the shattering of the bismuth on impact i found alot of...

Gear Recommendations - Mid-December First Timer

Not much I can add to the list and I didn't read everything but if it hasnt been mentioned tow/jerk strap, and clevis. I have added traction mats as well. I would also add a sleeping bag as one mentioned might have to stay in your rig at night, coffee can with sand and a candle is also good...

    Retirement gift for me!

Thank you for your years of service and congrat on your pending retirement. There are alot of great guns in your price range, if you are looking for a true dual purpose sporting/field gun then I would recommend staying with an O/U as it will provide more options. I really don't know of any...

eenie meenie miney mo... which state should we go?

South Dakota hands down, but down fall is only pheasants with marginal potential for sharptails. Things to keep in mind amount of good public land available to hunt, Nebraska and Kansas has ample public land to hunt but not the bird population. If you miss a pheasant in KS or Nebraska it cold...

    Saying Goodbye

Thanks all for your kind words. It hasn't gotten any easier to say goodbye to our hunting buddies. This pic was one of many of our waterfowl adventures.

    Saying Goodbye

Had to say goodbye to my princess. She started out as a graduation gift for my wife for receiving her bachelor's. Ellie was a great waterfowl and upland dog. She learned to point from hunting with my britt and also knew what the point beep meant, she would run and flush the pointed bird, much...

    Prepping for a controlled burn.

Last Sunday and Monday we did 1400 acres of grass and pine. You are very correct, a good plan is an absolute necessity when playing with fire.

    Pointer vs Flusher Poll

I own both and they each have their pros and cons. All a matter of the birds you are pursuing and style of hunting. Flushers, labs, are great in cover like cattails that is what they are built to hunt, not to mention waterfowling. Pointing breeds handle cattails well, but I've sloshed thru...

    SD Public Pheasant Hunting Trip

I agree with GH, i would recommend splitting your group up, more chances for success and you can cover more area. If this is the HQ of your trip you can find good ground if you area willing to travel within an hour or so of webster. I would lower your expectation of getting 15 birds by noon.

    Party Hunting

Party hunting I can take or leave. Sometimes it is just the luck of the draw where which way the birds flush. As long as the group is all on the same page on whether you are party hunting or not. When I take my son and his buddy, I have no problem if they shoot my birds, as long as party...
