    Disturbing?

A few miles from my house on Friday a car in the opposite lane was stopped so I slowed down to see what was up. There was a hen in the middle of the road with a brood of chicks that looked to be less then three weeks old. I raised pheasants last year so I have a pretty good idea of age.

    Pretty excited

Along with a Western SD trip planned for Halloween weekend we just planned a second trip to Mott ND. It's been on my destination list for a few years now. Last year I had trouble getting time off from my A-hole crotchity old foreman who cares about nothing more then work. This year I went...

    Recommendations on a strap vest?

I'm thinking of the new Tenzing vest as scene on the new PF email under gear and guns. It's kind of spendy but I'd really like one with water bottle pockets.

    What's up?

Funny how completely dead this site is this time of year. I've been doing a few things to get ready for the 2013 season. Planned a trip to Western SD. Bought a new Benelli and a beeper collar for my 1 year old GSP. I had a few nervous moments last year when I couldn't find her so I really...

    One 2013 SD trip planned

Reserved two cabins a couple weeks ago in Mobridge over Halloween weekend. Hoping for a second trip Thanksgiving weekend too. Cabins are $51 a night with up charge for dogs. Last season we limited in under an hour two of the three days and the third took just over three.

    Lyme's in March

There is 16 inches of snow here in MN and my lab was diagnosed with Lyme's yesterday. One enzyme reached her liver but luckily none got to the kidney's. The vet said she likely contracted it last Fall and a recent stress activated it. Anyone ever heard of this?

    Sand Pines

Headed there yesterday with my bro-in-law. There is snow there but still plenty of cover. We had them place 12, jumped 21 and took home 15. Hunted the full 4 hours and saw birds the entire time. I'm impressed with the size of their fields. The highlight for me was my new 1 year old shorthair...

    Sunday hunt

Planned to go for the weekend (by myself) but got asked to work overtime Sat. so headed out after. Upon arriving at the motel I realized I forgot my tupperware tub full of my bird vests, gloves, hats, e-collars, dog water etc. Got out yesterday morning with my pockets stuffed full of shells...

    Selby SD report

Got home Tuesday night after an awesome weekend out in the Selby, Eureka SD area. Went with my bro-in-law. My kid bailed the morning of. A girl I'm sure. With the noon start we were able to do a lot of scouting and secure a spot around 11am. We shot our limit in 47 minutes. I also kicked up...

    Apparel at the Game Fair?

Does anyone know the name of the company that had very inexpensive clothes for sale? Their booth was past the food court down towards the retrieving contest spots. I bought a few Pheasants Forever sweatshirts ($20) PF shirts ($9) PF hat ($5). Of course my 22 year old son wants some stuff now...

    Britton South Dakota

Anybody hunted pheasants in or near Britton in the last couple years? I see it is loaded with public land and it's close proximity would make a perfect long weekend trip. I'm afraid rooms will be booked for opener in some spots if I keep waiting for the road side counts to come out.

    Ruger Red Label?

Anyone shoot this gun? 12 or 20 gauge. Almost all my guns are semi-autos. Mostly Benelli's. Thinking about a OU but don't really want to spend a ton for a Browning or such. Suggestions?

Where are you heading this year?

Wondering where people are planning trips to hunt birds this year. I like to plan a couple trips until late season begins in MN. I'm considering a couple spots in North Dakota and several in South. I know a lot of people don't want to give away their hot spots but maybe a "I've been here and...

    GSP quetion

I've bird hunted labs my whole life. I now have a GSP (and two labs). I have a fair amount of property and let her roam. She spend a lot of time pointing any bird she sees. Is this a no no? I got to thinking that letting her run around on her own free will pointing while not under my...

    Lemmon SD

I posted this question on another thread but seen it hasn't been visited in months. Is Lemmon SD worth the drive from Minneapolis MN? I typically hunt Chamberlain which is to busy for me and Hoven where we pay to hunt. Although not that much. It also lacks quality public properties. Two...
