    Post your pictures

How the heck do you guys always get such good action shots "while" you're hunting? Do you just drop your shotgun for the perfect pose? When I'm hunting, I'm holding my shotgun with 2 hands ready for a bird to erupt from cover. Not dicking around with a camera.

    Jeopardizing Future Opportunities

I only ask people once if they say no. Bothering someone for 20 years is only compounding the problem. You have to be willing to respect no for an answer.

    Jeopardizing Future Opportunities

Its a respect thing for me. I don't care if you legally need permission or not, I'm seeking it. I'm not a landowner and likely never will be (other than my own homestead), so I try to put myself in their shoes. I would want people asking permission. I'm sure there would be lazy dip shits...

    What would your reaction be?

Not that much of a surprise given it a weekend and on an opener. The only part that does kind of surprise me is that they weren't from Minnesota. Whole lotta people here love to paint the disrespectful brush on that state. Clearly it can happen with hunters from other states too, and an...

    MN report

I stopped counting at 200 pheasants when I was deer hunting last week by day 4. The amount of deer, wild turkeys, and pheasants I saw was like I've never seen before in 25 years hunting in Central MN. The wildlife is 100% flourishing. One morning I thought a flock of mallards had landed on...

Pheasant hunting with kids on thanksgiving

There's a specific thread for each state here. Check out the one for South Dakota and you'll find plenty of field reports there.

    Uninsulated Boots??

I had a pair of Redhead boots not long ago. They were great for one season. By the second season, they took on water and my feet got wet every time. I don't put a ton of miles on my boots either. Won't be going with the Redhead brand ever again. YMMV

Pheasant hunting with kids on thanksgiving

The drop in bird numbers in the K state is well documented here. A game farm guarantees birds, but at a premium cost. Plus there is no challenge to hunting flare nares. South Dakota's wild birds on public land will provide the best chance of finding and harvesting wild pheasants.

    Hunting solo tactics

How does one "shoot a hen by accident?" There's no mistaking a rooster from a hen. They don't look even remotely close to the same in color. Early season some roosters certainly resemble a hen but if that's the case you shouldn't be shooting anyways. #moron

    Hunting solo tactics

If you are able to, approach the parcel/piece from the opposite direction as everyone else. Pressured birds are used to approaching danger from the same direction, over and over. I'll echo what has also already been stated. No noise whatsoever. Full stealth mode. When a rooster gets up...

    Snakes out?

Rocky areas warm up in the afternoon sun and reptiles such as snakes are seeking these areas out for that specific reason. As others have stated, with lows in the 30's, they will be in their dens but if its still reaching 60 degrees and the sun it out, there could be one basking in it. I'd...

    Deer Season is Upon Us

Been there so many times I can't even count anymore! Pheasant hunting see deer that I never saw during the actual deer season...including really nice bucks. I think a big reason here is the dog. Most of these deer would not get pushed without the aid of a dog, which obviously isn't permitted...

    Deer Season is Upon Us

I still have a hard time imagining you have time to unsling a shotgun, sling up the slug gun, and shoot a rooster before it gets out of range when you're holding the slug gun. I can't picture that one. Any delay and the rooster is gone. And if you leave one against a fence post obviously...

    Deer Season is Upon Us

I can't even comprehend the thought of this. I need two hands to safely carry either a rifle or a shotgun. So what do you do, chuck one down when a deer or a rooster pops up and then try to use the other before the target gets out of dodge?
