    Costs for Shipping

You would likely have had no repercussions, the liability is on the shipper. You would have gotten a letter saying a package in transit was intercepted and to call the number for more information.

    License check. Is this legal?

Minnhunter, you were on a gravel road in Iowa during pheasant season, with dogs/guns/orange in the truck. You were technically in the act of hunting whether you considered yourself to be or not, those ditches on each side are legal to hunt and driving around road hunting is very common and legal...

    License check. Is this legal?

They usually always start the conversation with "been hunting?" And if you say no the say "on your way out?" They need to know one of those is true before they can check your license. Same if he pulled you over, if you say no you always wear your orange hat and just on your way to town to get...

    License check. Is this legal?

In Iowa they can pull you over if they suspect you are going to/from hunting or fishing activities. Ive not been pulled over, but passed one of the wardens I know last year on a hwy going from one area to the next and he rubber necked HARD. Still wearing orange, i couldnt believe he didnt stop...

    Uninsulated Boots??

Ive worn their gunflint 400g for years, as long as I am moving/standing ive never gotten cold feet. Usually the opposite, hot and sweaty. The pair i bought last year tore at a stitched seam this summer and their customer service is awesome! They couldn't locate a replacement pair anywhere so...

Ithaca Mod 37 16 ga. Mod choke pattern?

Shoot a pattern and find out. It wont be too tight i can guarantee. But you never know, might throw a perfect pattern or you may be tossing up a pattern so bad you have a better chance at a miss or cripple than a kill. You just dont know

    Black Cloud for Pheasant

Yeah unfortunately thats the case with most bismuth that I test as well. Then at 40 its a real struggle to get it back to even and tight. From the sounds of it, might be a little tough to find an all-around choke with that shell. The good thing is, 40 yards is about the max for those 5s so you...

    Black Cloud for Pheasant

95% of bismuth 5s at 30 yards, wont need to get out the grinder to make bacon ranch pheasant burgers 😀 I didnt even know federal was making bismuth shells in the flight control flex wad, but I see they are on sale for $35/box plus another $5 rebate which is a great price for factory bismuth...

    Bird shooting lesson learned

Always always pattern at the distance you are going to shoot. No sense in a 40yd pattern if your shots are always under 30. Unless you are a good enough shot to hit the head up close, most of us arent. Whenever i try that I end up missing the first shot trying to snipe a head and then kill it...

    Affinity 20 Gauge Ammo Issue

Well the brass (steel) always swells to the chamber size upon firing in every gun with every shell. I dont see why those shells would hang up when others work fine, especially both 2.75 and 3". Especially considering you say other fed shells work fine as all current fed 20ga use the same hull...

    Black Cloud for Pheasant

Something to consider is that flight control wad likes no choke, often the more open the choke the tighter the pattern. I used to shoot IC for 40-50yd goose pattern when I shot black cloud, when i tightened to Mod it opened up significantly, and full was like throwing a handful of shot at the...

    Black Cloud for Pheasant

Those 2s will work great. Black cloud is iffy on patterns, just like prairie storm, be careful you arent too tight and shreading the birds to pieces. I preferred steel 3s when i used steel, but theres not enough difference between the two to go buy new shells.

    Another Shot Size Thread

If she wont shoot past 30 she certainly doesn't need bismuth, and definitely not bismuth 3-4. Bismuth 6s would be plenty, or steel 4s. A 12ga load of bismuth 3s/4s at sub 30 yards sounds like an inedible bird, they are when i hit them with my 20ga 4s that close. Ic choke and the steel 3s sounds...

    Another Shot Size Thread

Just tighten the pattern a little and the overall density will be adequate, you wont be able to shoot an IC choke at 35 yards and expect dead birds every time as the shot count just isnt there. Overchoking is a thing with #2+ steel also, so be aware. Once you get too tight it will blow out and...

    TSS Pass-through

Penetration is penetration, be it lead steel or tungsten. Tss at 1500fps 9 penetrates the same as lead #2 at 1200fps. The difference is lead cuts and drags feathers too which will reduce the lead shot's real world penetration on a bird, tungsten goes right through feathers because of its small...

    Iowa Doves

You can also let the kids sleep in a bit and go around 9am. A vast majority of the yahoos will be gone by then and youll often have a whole field to yourself soon after. The birds will fly all day on opener

Is Bismuth Shot really more effective than Steel?

I will absolutely try to remember to take some pictures and share reports for you this season. Remind me in November if I forget. I'll probably go the preserve to get the dog some work in early October if we get cool weather but we all know those birds are not built like a wild one, definitely...

Is Bismuth Shot really more effective than Steel?

None of that matters when it comes to shotgunning birds, everything mentioned leads to cripples. Breaking a wing, a leg, cutting big hole in meat etc. We kill birds by multiple disruptions of vital organs; heart, brain, lungs, spinal cord. Thats why a tight pattern is so necessary when it...

    Iowa Doves

It can be fun, but you wont do much "hunting" on opener in a public field. Everyone just sits on buckets or stands in the field and pass shoots at the birds. Dont get frustrated, youll see some crazy stuff. Youll see blackbirds, blue jays, finches, killeer, hawks all shot. Guys will be standing...
