9 miles of walking, 2 opportunities, 1 Rooster

I was in Wray for most of the day. We went up to South Holyoke later. I got my bird in Holyoke. One farm that I hunt had a ton of rain and very little hail.

Good luck. You get it. Nah. You would get it done.

9 miles of walking, 2 opportunities, 1 Rooster

Let me clarify. We walked 9 miles. I had 2 opportunities and made 1 shot count. We saw 50 birds. Many flushed wild. I was on all private land that doesn't get hit too hard. I think that the bird numbers are down. I've hunted these farms for 12 years. I've limited out in under 2 minutes a few...

9 miles of walking, 2 opportunities, 1 Rooster

December 13, 2026 Colorado Upland Hunt I thought that we would put up more birds yesterday. I was proud of Josey for finding me three hens. I blew my first opportunity. Glad that I connected on my second.

Good work by the dogs, my shooting remains uninspiring

Thank you for the insights. The 3 options are interesting. I am not sure if I can be proficient in all three techniques. My instructor told me to point at the bird with my left (front) hand. Then mount by pulling my right hand back to my shoulder.

Good work by the dogs, my shooting remains uninspiring

I will post my shotgun instruction. He showed me that I was trying to meet the bird instead of mounting at the bird, and moving the barrel with the bird's flight. I was so bad with my first 2 boxes that I became embarrassed. The third box was better. The last 2 boxes were fantastic.

Agree 100%. I try to mount 20+ times early in the day. The .mount includes a swing. I love a stocking hat for the same reason..

Good work by the dogs, my shooting remains uninspiring

I like hunting alone as well. Echo turns 10 next week. There is not a chance that I leave her behind. She has been my partner for a long time. My mounts are better this season.

The population isn't ideal. WIAs are uninspiring. Good luck out there.

Good work by the dogs, my shooting remains uninspiring

December 6, 2025 Upland Hunt Video I did work on my shooting in the off-season. I hired a professional to help me overcome some bad habits that I adopted in 2024. My results on the range improved materially during my lesson. Transferring the instructions to the field is different. Hopefully, I...

    Shooting Woes - Help Needed

I gained weight. Not ideal. Same jacket, pants vest etc. Nothing changed. I noticed my mounts were horrible. I worked to fix that during the season. As my confidence went down, I started to rush everything. I do feel a sense of guilt when my dogs do their job and I continously fail. Patterning...

They're coming to Colorado. $600 a day. I might have to consider attending.

    Shooting Woes - Help Needed

I get it. I do try to move forward after a miss. That said, it was so bad this season that I never attempted a challenging shot. My confidence was low, so I was always hoping that a rooster would be close and late to pop up. I will look up that book. Thank you.

    Shooting Woes - Help Needed

Good advice. I did notice that I seemed shocked with the flush even though my dogs told me that the bird was close. It's a weird feeling that has not hit me before.

    Shooting Woes - Help Needed

I appreciate the comments. I do agree that hunting with both girls has been distracting. I find myself confused on who to follow when we find more than bird. I don't know if I can leave 1 in the truck with being overwhelmed with guilt. Advice taken.
