I’ve been looking at some of these. I’m getting the itch for more side x sides.

No experience with the Stoeger but the first shotgun I used for pheasant was a 48 AL in 20 gauge. Love that gun. It has a 2 3/4” chamber so if you are looking for a 3” chamber it won’t work for you.

Beretta A400, Browning A5 both north of $1K. I have a Beretta A300 in 20 gauge that came in under $1k. I like the A300 and would get another. but it doesn’t shoot as good as my A400. Finding a good used gun may be a good option.

I bought some 3” 20 gauge shells because I got a good deal on them. Thought I needed them for pheasant. Waist of recoil. Didn’t perform any better than 2 3/4” shells. High brass 2 3/4” 20 gauge #5 or #6 will get the job done. I prefer #5 but can’t find it sometimes and use #6. Not sure...

I use my 48 AL 28 gauge for dove and quail. I’ve shot skeet with it too. I have several guns that take the mobil choke, so I have lots of extras.

I have a basic Iside in 16 gauge and its a pleasure to shoot. I wanted double triggers when I got it. I would have preferred to have ejectors but can’t get the basic one with ejectors.

I’m with birddude. If the 16 is what you want, you’ll end up with it eventually anyway.

I haven’t found a good classic one yet. I have a 1969 light Twelve. I’d like to find a nice 16 ga from around that time or earlier.

Just picked up my 2nd Marlin model 90 in 16 ga. Go to gun is changing.

I haven’t shot the 20 ga in the dove field, but I have shot skeet with it and some pheasants. Never found it to be that bad. Its a good gun.

I’ve got 3. Great guns. Lots of dove downed with one in 28 ga.

I have 3 48 ALs. Two in 28 and one 20. Can’t say enough good about them. Never one problem. My first 28 ga Franchi is the shotgun I shoot the best. Killed my first pheasant with the 20. Great guns.

Franchi 48 AL is the shiz if you can find one.

It has been a Franchi 48 AL in 20 ga. I’m hoping to make it my new A5 sweet sixteen.

If I could get in 5 coveys in 3 days, I’d be happy. But we used to have a lot of birds here in AR. Now, we don’t have any. When I was a kid, we would get into 3-5 coveys per day.

Looking like this is what I’ll do. I just feels rough when I open it. I think it needs to be torn down. I’m betting there is no lube of any kind on the internals. I’ll have to learn how to take it down.

It was a thought, but probably won’t go that route.

Looks like I’m going to be seeing the insides of mine. The gunsmith I wanted to look it over won’t do it. I can’t fix much, but I can at least get in there and look for rust and lube it up I guess. Refinishing won’t happen now unless I find someone that actually knows something about it.
