    Them Changes

The place may have been hunted before you. The birds might have been out feeding and saw you coming. They might have been somewhere else. They might not like that spot for some reason we will never be able to understand. For years I've hunted a switchgrass patch in E. Central Illinois. Every...

While I was out hunting this morning.....

The study said billions in North America, not the world. Cats kill for fun. If they are outside they are fair game.

Ever gotten in trouble while outdoors alone?

Locked keys in trunk while duck hunting. That was no fun. Luckily found a piece of wire out near the road, was able, after about 8000 attempts to unlock a door, but this was back when cars did not have remote trunk release and well before cell phones. Then had to basically take the back seat...

What wild game are you serving for the holiday?

Grilled quail breasts Italian style Bone in, full breast pieces. Flatten them out with a meat mallet or I use a small cast iron pan. Salt/Pepper/extra virgin olive oil, chopped rosemary. Grill over hot charcoal bone side down until about 75% cooked then flip to meat side to finish and give...

    How’s your shooting been?

I blame it on the new strap vest. Gun doesn't shoulder the same as it had for the last 30 years!

    How’s your shooting been?

My shooting has been terrible. I have missed at least 6 birds this year. Everyone I hunt with wonders if I'm ok.

My dog gives me that look when I close the cheese drawer without including him in the delectable edibles. He is French.

    Indoor Hunting Dogs

my last dog was totally chill. He'd be totally uninterested in anything until he hit the tall grass, then his tail would go up and he was after it. Very strange.

    2025 WI Pheasant Thread

I used to plan my deer hunts around the schedule of the neighboring hunters. I hunted enough to know when they would show up and when they would leave. I'd always be in my stand before they go there and would always wait until they left. You'd be surprised how many deer I killed over the years...

Never understood the shell loop thing. Why would anyone use that except to try to look like John Rambo?

    New upland vest

My dog learned in 2 outing that if he came to me and sat, I would give him water. Nice to have two squirt bottles when the truck is a long ways away and no creek/puddle. or whatever to try to drink from. I do have a belt with water holder, shell pocket, accessory that i have worn in the past...

    Getting Old Sucks

Hunted yesterday with friend who is 74. We did what I would call a 2/3rd hunt. Went to get truck to pick him up. When we got back to where he was he was sitting and resting. Couldn't get up! I thought he might have been down for good.

Lets talk cleaning/processing after the hunt

My dad was in Korea in the 50s and would take R&R in Japan. He told me the Japanese would hang pheasants by the tail and when the pheasant fell to the ground they were ready to eat because they were tender.
