Pup going to training for a month

That’s where your basic obedience comes in. Plenty of people have non hunting dogs that don’t wear e collars and will still come. Positive reinforcement (praise) and/ or negative reinforcement (harsh voice “no” and go and drag him to you, not hurting dog, but making him uncomfortable for not...

Pup going to training for a month

Sounds like he needs more obedience, less birds. Work on Come, Heal, and Whoa. Might have to long check cord him in the field and forgo the gun while hunting for awhile until he’s more under control. Also, as others said- a tired pup is a good pup. Good luck.

Pup going to training for a month

That’s too bad, he sounds like he’s working for himself and not working for you. I have a gsp who is a machine in the field but turns completely off in the house. Maybe I got lucky. He only gets anxious in the house after 3-4 days of no activity. I used the Rick Smith Puppy Development...

Pup going to training for a month

Join a dog training club like Navhda or something local so you can learn how to continue to train your dog yourself. You will learn quite a bit and bond with your dog more. Good luck.

    Blue Green Algae a Concern?

Here in WI, the dnr has set aside some areas for year round dog training. Nice for keeping the dog conditioned. Also have a couple local areas with water that are dog friendly. Get out early in the day before the heat!

    Blue Green Algae a Concern?

I try and look for ponds and lakes that have life in them in the form of fish, frogs, or turtles. Not sure if that is a good theory though, sort of a redneck litmus test.

Looking for a good dog near Lubbock

Depending on your location, $1000- 1200 seems about right for a bird dog from good hunting lines and breed appropriate health checks (hips). While that may be close to your mortgage, do remember that the initial cost of the puppy is quite small when compared to the long term costs of feeding...

Looking for a good dog near Lubbock

Yeah he did but you’ll still need the GSPs to retrieve the birds the setters won’t. 🤣

    Customizing truck canopy

My 100xq cap has carpeted (insulated) headliner. I also have the removable front slider window. I use these type of battery fans. I put an insulated, zip up cover on the kennel when it’s cold.

What do you feed your Hunting Dog

Purina Pro Plan is most popular choice. Purina also has the largest marketing company as well. American Natural Premium and Fromm are both good dog foods made in WI. Mostly available at local feed stores. Research ingredients and make informed decision. Good luck!

    Familys First Bird Dog

@waldo9190 Find a breeder close to you that is willing to work with you and/ or provide guidance on your first bird dog. Go see their breed and interact with their adult dogs to see how their behavior and temperament are to be around. Best to do your own homework in person. BTW- I have a 5 yr...

    Brittany search

You might want to open up your search to other breeds- if you can find a good, local breeder their knowledge and networking can be worth gold to someone getting their first gun dog. Many local hunt tests in next few months to get out and see the different styles of dogs and talk to owners. Good...
