Looking for a new bird dog

Find a breeder near you that is willing to work and train with you to get you and your pup off to a great start. See how the breeder’s adult dogs hunt and if their style suits you. The breeder is as important as the breed. Btw- my GSP is a machine in the field and mellow in the house.

    Who let “this” dog out!!!

My GSP male is intact and has a great demeanor, similar to @remy3424. I believe it is due to socialization, training, and desire to hunt.

    Dog on the IL

I saw this pool noodle rig before- the idea is to keep dog from licking wounds while still being able to eat, drink, and walk around fine. You can even double them up if needed. Might be worth a try! Disclaimer- not my dog in picture.

Bring a fishing pole, your dog will need a break anyways.

    Dog on the IL

Sorry to hear that. There’s some YouTube videos on making dog boots from bicycle tires. You could do the same thing for protecting your dogs leg stitches. Just don’t keep it too tight or on too long for circulation. Sounds like you can have an opportunity to hunt some AZ quail, that season is...

    Scent control when planting birds

Scent, if associated with something the dog enjoys or gets rewarded for, is something they will always go to whether it’s a wild bird or “fake” scent. Think about how they train bomb, drug, and cancer detecting dogs.

    Scent control when planting birds

Just don’t walk a straight line to and from the bird either when planting the bird or when training the dog.
