Pheasants Forever- SCAM or do they help upland hunters?

So if there USED TO BE wild pheasants there, why can't there be any now on that same private land, if the habitat was in-place? They were never native in this country, but I am just assuming you meant "a wild sustained population of them". I think I would rather PF worked with the landowners...

Snowfall - It could get pretty tough out there

Just pushed some snow off the driveway, looks like another 5-6", but the wind had picked-up earlier, so maybe the wind brought some extra there. If it stays cold, this could affect the bird numbers. That is a lot of snow to dig thru for food and we don't have the cattails around here for...

Pheasants Forever- SCAM or do they help upland hunters?

Just being a member is not doing much of anything for your local chapter to buy anything. Get to the banquets and spend some money, that is where their funds come from to acquire land or do any activates that require more than their volunteer labor. They can't do this alone, they partner with...

The food plots are getting hammered now.

It sounds like most everyone in the upper midwest has snow cover and more coming now. This is when the food plots you plant can really make a difference. It is pretty early for the birds to need to rely on them, but I hope they last the winter, I am doubtful they will. A few days of full sun...

Snowfall - It could get pretty tough out there

I went out into a few places this morning to just to see how the cover faired. I was surprised how snowed-in everything is, and how little cover is now remaining. About 95% blown full. When it gets cold, the birds could be in trouble. More snow than I expected, it seems like close to 12...

    Hunters using heated gloves? Opinions

I saw 2 different gloves on their site, one is pretty sheer, advertised as a liner or by itself.

Pheasants Forever- SCAM or do they help upland hunters?

I am fine with MN, haven't been to Minneapolis but a few times, it was fine....still need to get there for a Vikings games, but maybe not this season. I am just over 100 miles from Sioux Falls or Omaha, but Minneapolis is 4.5 hours each way, Des Moines is 3 hours. Been to Pheasantfest in Omaha...

Pheasants Forever- SCAM or do they help upland hunters?

It is basically huge trade show for anything and everything related to pheasant hunting. Everything from dogs to disks, guns to boots, shells to clothing, with a bunch of seminars mixed in, plus some PF activities if you are into that. Gives you an opportunity to put hands on a lot of products...

    Hunters using heated gloves? Opinions

Weston heated apparel, just saw an ad on FB for their heated gloves. Maybe Google them. Just googled them, $150, rechargeable.

Do you take a poke at the long range birds ?

My thinking is that experienced hunters usually only make a "clean miss", when they know they weren't "on the bird" when they pulled, a real close shot before the pattern opened-up or the screamers that the lead is so hard to get right (for me anyway). I don't often get those "screamer"...

They have been catching some bad press lately.

Pheasants Forever- SCAM or do they help upland hunters?

Yep, I read that KC attendance was around 24k this past year and Sioux Falls the year before was approx 35K. Not a blanket statement, but it seems the haters of PF here are often folks from Kansas (judging by either their handle or if they bothered to add a location in their bio). Heck, we...

    Trulok choke tubes

Could you show a pattern from your old choke and then the new one? I am just curious to see the improvement. I assume that is how you can tell quality from just a standard choke tube.

    Steady to flush and shot?

I have never tried to train a dog to be steady to anything. I have had pointers (GSPs). To avoid a "dangerous situation", avoid low shots, adopt the blue sky rule.

Pheasants Forever- SCAM or do they help upland hunters?

Guessing they go to where the birds and bird hunters are to get good attendance turn-outs. That does make sence. Maybe Denver wouldn't pull enough attendance to attract the vendors and make it worth the effort. Seems logical. They aren't looking for 2,000 attendees, they want 32,000.

    Bells on flushers

I have a couple different ones. If I hunt with someone without one I offer them one, good to have different "dings" to know if it is your dog or not that you are following.
