I've never hunted an area with my dogs that we had to deal with cactus but we are going to some new areas this year and you guys have me thinking it might be a good idea to have some boots in the truck....just in case.

I spike their morning water with a small amount of a food topper I make, before we leave the motel. They will drink the entire bowl. Dyne or chicken broth is also something you can add to water.

One of my favorite crock pot meals is pork and sauerkraut. I made it last week with a tenderloin I had in the freezer. I prefer it over mashed potatoes but sometimes I'll throw potatoes in with it and make it a one pot meal.

One nice thing about Nutrisource is like Purina it is pretty easy to find. I can get it locally and when I'm hunting up north, I can pick up a bag at Menards, Runnings or Fleet Farm.

You forgot to mention the rattlesnakes. Lots of rattlesnakes in South Dakota this year....especially in areas that hold pheasant. They like the same habitat. If you're seeing pheasant....that area is probably loaded with snakes.

I agree. I started filtering my dogs drinking water to remove and reduce some of the nasty stuff. Really helped my older dog that had past stomach issues.

I use SS Nalgene's when I'm elk hunting now but I still like squeeze bottles for my dogs. I'm going to start packing a larger cooler in my truck and keep the dogs water bottles cold and out of direct sunlight when the weather is warm. Should reduce the leeching to some extent.
