    Soybean price helps habitat

So you think we should ignore the gross trade imbalance, just let it go on? It is unfortunate that the people growing crops and raising livestock were some of the few "manufactures" in this country whose goods foreigners are willing to buy, because the tariff wars have definitely hurt them...

    Wet Crispi Boots

I eliminated just about all hunting except birds on the prairie on nice, dry days. That helped immensely. ;)

How many of you let birds go?

If I recommend hiding over-limit birds under your seat in the future please rest assured it is just my flippant sense of humor at play, and not a serious suggestion for how to break the law. :)

Goose, you are blowing your karma. ;)

How many of you let birds go?

Goose, for once I'm going to try to take your advice. I definitely need better karma. :)

    Small game knives

No, he threw away the heart and liver, didn't wear nitrile gloves, didn't remove the kidneys and left sharp wingbones sticking out to puncture a baggie and vac-pack bag. Not that I'm picky or anything! ;) But yes, I have no use for a knife to clean birds, except for one little trick. I...

    Wet Crispi Boots

Yes, wet pants will soak your socks and the water will wick and make the inside of the boots very wet. Also, the wet grass can ride up under even waterproof pants to soak the exposed sock. Most likely your gaiters would have prevented both problems.

    Knee Surgery Question

I had a bad injury to a knee 3 years ago when I was 73, had to have open surgery to repair everything that was torn. Didn't get a replacement but had to go through the same rehab as the replacement guys. Took months to recover, and it wasn't until 2 years after that I could actually hunt like...

what areas do you look for on the map when deciding to hunt upland birds

Absolutely, and keep in mind that just because a state's F&G harvest report maps show an area as being not very productive does not mean there are not a lot of birds there -- it may just mean that not many hunters go there! The first couple of years I spent dozens of hours pouring over harvest...

    Nebraska sharptails.

They're too fast for me to do much reminding. :) A couple of years ago I got two in one shot, thot I was really something. A half hour later one of them started flapping crazily in my vest. Turned out its only injury was a pellet that had grazed its skull and knocked it out.

    Prairie Grouse

I understand, thanks for passing it on. My grand-daughter took my shorthair for a hike a few weeks ago and came home with a video of knucklehead circling a prairie rattler in the trail and acting like he was thinking of pouncing on it. Scared the heck out of me!

Do you carry a dog first aid kit while hunting and if so what should be in one

Hunting where I do in SD no one traps. I have a pair of good cable cutters in my vehicle tool box but they are heavy and the chances of me needing them due to a snare are near zero. I always have a pair of NN-pliers on me for quill-removal when hunting, along with a roll of nylon tape to...

    Most Satisfying Shot

Too many, but all we can do is keep trying to get better at shooting, and at knowing when not to. And, yes, watching them until they are out of sight!

    Most Satisfying Shot

It's mostly a miss but a pellet ruptures an artery, resulting in a bleed-out. It is like bleeding out deprives them of oxygen, making them think they are under water, and they fly straight up trying to get to air. We had one of those a few years ago. Only one pellet hit the bird, but that...
