    Bug Bites

I'd be surprised if it was from insects in the field. Bed bugs would be my guess. No way I would even consider hunting in those temps. Best to avoid that cheap motel again too.

    Copper Shot?

I used copper-plated shells. I don't know if that's the same as "copper shot." They are made by federal. Wing Shok

    The flush

Yes it is. I see it on occasion but I don't make a point of watching it. Travis Frank is also the co-host of Due North Outdoors, which is kind of a spin off of Minnesota Bound. Travis is about 4 and a half feet tall in person lol. He is a shrimp

4th weekend of season and the temps are warmer than a typical opening day here.

It was 70 degrees in the Twin Cities yesterday. It set a new record for the latest 70 degree recording in any year since they have been keeping track. Not a big fan

    Getting old is not fun!

My Father is 73 and I have to basically babysit him when we deer hunt and fish together. It gets annoying at times but its better than not doing it.

    2025 season reports

I have been deer hunting for 6 days now and seen quite a few pheasants. Every morning when the day starts, the countryside is an orchestra of rooster cackles. A bunch of corn has been combined in the area this week too. I am hoping to bird hunt a day next week, if my dog is up for it. The...

    The flush

I've met Ron Schara a couple times. He, Bill Sherk, and Lara Schara used to host the annual Crappie Contest on Lake Minnetonka through Minnesota Bound. MN Bound the show is still on NBC every Sunday night. The original black lab was Raven. Currently its a black lab named Millie. MN Bound...

    Increasing Dog’s Energy Level

This. If there are no birds, they lose interest. I've never encountered this while pheasant hunting, but I did a couple times while waterfowl hunting. The dog loses interest if birds aren't part of the equation regularly.

    Ground-pounding opinions

Can't do anything about the orange. Its required in many states. Yelling hen or rooster is completely unnecessary. If it's a rooster, shoot it. If it's a hen, you don't. If you can't tell, you don't shoot. Its not complicated. If you are shooting hens, you should not be hunting pheasants...

Training your dog to stay closer

Mine went through basic training and they taught me how to continue using an e-collar afterwards. I've only had to buzz my dog once in nearly 14 years. Just the simple task of placing the e-collar on her changes her demeanor immediately.

South Dakota Pheasant Hunting Is Changing, Or Has Changed

Hunter numbers have fallen here in MN across the board too. I looked up the historical data for resident license sales about a week ago, just out of curiosity. Small game (which is primarily pheasant, grouse, and waterfowl) is down a whopping 75% from its peak in 1977. Deer firearms license...

    Ground-pounding opinions

I always keep mine on until I'm ready to fire. That's what they teach in gun safety class. You should be able to raise/shoulder your shotgun and release the safety in one motion. After a while, it simply becomes routine. Walking around uneven terrain through swamps, cornfields, grassland...

Looks like our first winter weather is coming

Definitely a few days of colder weather coming to the area starting Sat. No snow or rain/snow mix predicted where I am. But the lows on Sun and Mon morning appear to be in the teens. I'll be in my deer stand 20 feet up in a tree. I am fine with a cold snap. It keeps the animals on the move...
