Start of Minnesota 2025-2026 season countdown

I voted in that survey. My preference were the two middle dates, not Jan 1 or 31. I've hunted roosters in MN most of my adult life, since I was 16. I can remember when I was younger and the season would end around the middle of December. That sucked. Missed out on some really good late...

Start of Minnesota 2025-2026 season countdown

That's when the early youth and antler less firearms season is. They know exactly when to have that 4 day season open and I can assure you that deer hunting recruitment is a much bigger draw than pheasant hunting is.

    Grouse report

There is supposed to be a good hard freeze tonight across much of the state so that should kill off some bugs.

    Sportdog vs garmin

This seems absurd to me too. Way too far for a bird dog. That being said, bear hunters in WI can use hounds and they often allow their dogs to run miles from the owner. Once they tree a bear, then they go to the location the GPS is showing. I would personally worry about my dog encountering...

Start of Minnesota 2025-2026 season countdown

It might be in the works. I received a survey from the DNR this past summer about moving the opener back. They would then keep it open further into January. More like Iowa's season. I'm fully in favor of it. Other specific questions were related to each day's start time. They asked if 9am...

    Transporting birds for others

I would say as long as they are labeled and cleaned properly with the appropriate license, you should be ok there.

    Preferred/best pheasant shells?

I've had ammo go bad on me. Turkey loads. It costed me a nice tom too. It was Winchester Longboard XR that was about 10 years old. I won't be using shells that are more than a few years old anymore now.

    Preferred/best pheasant shells?

Not really sure why this was posted in the Minnesota thread. Regardless. I use Federal Premium lead in #6 shot. Either Prairie Storm or Wing Shok that's 1500 fps. I use an IC choke all season, all my shots are 30 yards or less.

    Road Signs and WMA Signs

This is the sort of behavior that makes other hunters look bad. Either that or they are drunk, which is a terrible idea when firearms are involved.

Advice on bird hunting trip to Grand rapids ,MN

Jim, bear in mind that there is a 4 day youth/early anterless firearms deer season from October 16-19 so there may be some people hunting deer during those four days with firearms. You will need additional blaze orange during those 4 days when you are hunting. Just a FYI

Rarely do I agree with Goose, but on this one I do. The breed and age of the dog does matter. But in general, that's too warm for me and my dog. Way too warm.

    Meat handling while traveling

That's false. Bacteria grows at temps above 50. Exponentially, I might add. You go ahead and keep your fridge at 55 degrees. You'll be sick in 2 days. Violently.

Start of Minnesota 2025-2026 season countdown

Last season was the best I've had since 2018. The area I hunt is up 85% from last season according to the DNR. I'm skeptical that this year can be 85% better. My lab is 13.5 so we cannot hunt in warm temps. Has to be under 50 degrees. Last year I got 10 hunts in between mid November and the...
