NW ND prairie bird count dropped significantly

At one time NW ND was quietly a great place to run dogs and shoot pheasants. It was a zoo opening weekend (mostly ND residents from Williston, Minot and parts in between) ... then pretty quiet as geese entered the state in mass and deer season came next. When the Bakken was renewed and...

Do you add anything to your dogs water while hunting

Water is all they need. I like egg or ground burger as a supplement to their evening meal to encourage them to eat if they are "dog" tired. The extra protein and fat is a plus too.

NW ND prairie bird count dropped significantly

It is no secret that the past 2-3 years in NW ND have been pretty crazy good. e-posting is changing things a bunch NW ND was phenomenal pheasant hunting before the sloughs recharged in the early 90s.

NW ND prairie bird count dropped significantly

CRP and Corn are not a sharptail's friend. Huns prefer small grains and edges. Tall grass prairie is not a Hun's friend either.

NW ND prairie bird count dropped significantly

If the brood count (# of broods and # of juvenile birds) are down, it will very likely show up in the harvest survey (lower). Young birds make up a large share of the harvest. If you did not hunt Huns in ND in the 1988 - 1992 time frame ... you missed the crazy peak no matter what the...

The MN DNR has the link for the license lottery look "live" on the Prairie Chicken page of the website. When I looked up our my ID ... It says we were unsuccessful. Two years ago, the web page said that we were unsuccessful, and preference moved to "2". Made other plans and then the "you...

Google says MN started in around July 17, 2023. Have not seen one around me yet, but if they are aligned with Cub - I never will.

You carry your WI licenses on a plastic card (same size as a credit card). DNR officers scans the card to see if you are appropriately licensed. ND - you can carry your license on the phone. ND wardens can pull your license up on their laptop in the cab of their pickup. ND you can get your...

The link was not showing the actual or correct results last year. It appears the DNR may have abandoned the online link to check license draw success and gone with straight mail only ? It is simply amazing on how poor and far behind MN is on anything computer related.

Help me plan a trip to NoDak

Mallard Island is fine, but it is not pheasant nirvana. We did well though and it used to be on a weekday you would probably have the place to yourself.

    SW minn flooding

Moisture on the grass during brood counts drives them to the roads to dry off. Severe drought results in less insects. Small chicks need protein.

    SW minn flooding

 Could be worse I suppose it is not really, really cold. Hens in areas where there is not a lot of grasslands tend to nest in low lying areas that can be prone to flooding. The hope is the early spring did in fact trigger a few hens to start a bit early - sounds like nater is seeing...

    Early Spring Report

Lots of small ND towns (many with a rather old average age population) reaching out to neighboring small towns for help only to find that they are a mess too. Barns, Ransom, Griggs, Cass, and Steele counties hit the hardest. Not really pheasant country, but I am pretty sure I have killed...

    Montefeltro Likes/Dislikes?

You only fire two or three rounds per day, right ;) I would go by the gun that fits you best carrying, lifting to mount on shoulder, and how it mounts to your body when shooting.

    Heartworm

My vet has competitive prices on heartgard and nexgard. I suppose a bit more, but only if I really shopped around. In addition - those meds are supposed to require a vets signature. The product rebates automatically apply to the upfront cost of the medicine (I do not touch a form). I am a...
