    Bird flu

Have not seen any affects on the pheasant side but did see a few snows last fall that I would ASSUME were flu issues. For the number of snows we saw the percentage showing any signs was crazy low but think it is pretty well documented there is some migratory bird losses.

OT- homemade meals while on the road

Here is what I cook over our two plus week trip. Breakfast - either bacon or sausage, eggs, hash browns, pancakes, bagel, English muffin(not all this on the same days but rotate through them). One or two days I do a sausage, cheese and scrambled eggs combo like what would be in a breakfast...

Do some research on Goose and you will realize what he means. May be why he loses a lot of cripples, just saying.

    Long Distance Traveling for Birds

We have springers. 3 hole aluminum dog box that is large enough for 70-80 lb labs for sure. We have 4 dogs between us. On mild nights 3 dogs get their own spot and the 4th sleeps in the truck cab. On cold nights we will double dogs up for warmth. Have remote sensor in kennel to check temp from...

    Long Distance Traveling for Birds

Have looked at this many times over. No doubt the camper side offers lots of flex and in many regards would be great. I just can’t offset the cost of towing it at greater then 1000 miles each way as long as I am able to stay in a place that I can cook and stretch out at night. Also the cold...

    Passing through SD…Pheasants Galore

Talked to one of the farmers we hunt on in SD last week. He makes a lot of hay and hadn’t cut any yet do to rain and forecast. Thought the same thing about delayed cutting should be helping save a few young birds.

    Passing through SD…Pheasants Galore

East of river. I’d call it north central. Looks like nice rain central part of the state right now. Keep the storms away and things are shaping up nicely IMO.

    Passing through SD…Pheasants Galore

Agree not super concerned as long a no hail with it. Also for the areas we hunt the highest percentage day has dry days around it and then when there are multiple days in a row forecasted the percentage drops. Hopefully means they get some since sure the crops could use it but nothing that hurts...

Sporting clays, how to approach targets so they carryover to the pheasant fields.

I am a firm believer that about any type of shooting with SC, trap or skeet or even just throwing clays with friends directly helps with bird killing. I know for me personally the years I don’t get to shoot quite as much in the summer and fall my bird shooting is not quite as good. Shoot them up!!

    Unguided hunt…

Have a buddy coming out for his first SD trip this year. He has a young pointing dog and while he will be staying with us he will be for the most part hunting on his own. I will share any info that will help to make his trip successful but have also made sure his expectations are very low given...

    Inheritance

I’ve given this a lot of thought over the years for some reason. I have been blessed both with an understanding wife and a generous step dad and have acquired way more firearms then I would have ever imagined and will eventually get most of what my step dad still has at his place. I have told my...
