Young lab isn't retrieving this season

Can you get your cousin to help with training? Have him hide in the weeds and throw a dummy, then you call the dog back.

Did you get him from Wyoming?

Lack of public land birds. Recommendation for out of state permits

If you end up going the Montana route, try around Hilger, that place is lousy with birds. Just don't piss off the ranchers by dumping mud behind the barn, shooting a pet turkey, or asking their daughter on a date.

What is the strategy on hunting prairie chickens in the evening?

    The dog caught a pheasant

I'm gonna defer to these posts as having the most truth in the matter, with the exception being it was not a flare nare. The state doesn't release them, and this spot has no private pheasant ground anywhere near it. Third day of season so very likely he caught a pellet somewhere we didn't...

    The dog caught a pheasant

Went with a buddy today in MN where the state doesn't release birds. Chumps hunting here aren't guaranteed a limit. Buddy whistles in his dog at end of field, really thick bluestem, and pup has a lively rooster in his chops. I told him that's a cripple from opener. Many hours later back at his...

    State released pheasant

I'm not disagreeing with you, but why do feel the need to shoot high velocity howitzer shells at young dumb birds that flush at your feet or you ground pound off the shoulder? #prairie storm #marketing gimmick

Giving up on road hunting this year (possibly)

Sounds like you bought dogs from Wyoming. Thumbs down.

    Might be a bismuth shortage.

I'm not sweating it too much because I have a 12 gauge. Good luck shooting steel in a 28 gauge on wild roosters.

Come on, no hero opener day pics posted yet???

If I don't have a passport I might just drive to Paha Sapa and make my atonement at the crazy horse monument.

Start of South Dakota 2025-2026 season countdown

If you haven't been seeing as many birds as you want, you need to follow around these incognito trucks owned by SD GF&P. What happens is, after the first big bang ups out there, when the dumb ones are dead, and the smart ones have all the escape routes down pat, SD sends out these trucks at odd...

Those girls you bring home from the shoe show aren't gonna care about a little verbal bossing, heck they probably like it that way.

    Pheasant Hunting Report

Went out all weekend. It was group hunting. Four guys and my buddy's kid, +3 dogs Saturday. Hunting was good but still had to work at it. Some places all the crops was up still, others it was gone and tractors already turning ground over as black exposed dirt. The old dog hunted well being...

Looking for a new hunting vehicle

That is a '65 I believe. I was online shopping for them(not mine). If it were, I'd have a picture of a couple dogs in it sticking their head out the window. :)

Good Bird report, a new spot to try

I heard there's a ton of birds out by Gregory this year. Now I just hope I can get reservations at a hunting lodge.

Looking for a new hunting vehicle

I might scrap the suburban idea and hunt out of an old Power Wagon this year.

Looking for a new hunting vehicle

Thinking of the 2026 Suburban High Country. Should I stick with the 6.2L V8 engine? I want to go this route because it has the 18" screen with built in google, so that I can get all the waypoints downloaded for hunting spots. Plus 5G wi-fi, bluethooth, and sirius XM. And I think it'll have...

    Bird

My buddy got his first turkey yesterday. He was scouting a few weeks before season and saw birds in a field from the interstate. He door knocked and got a green light. 25.5 lb. eastern, double beard 11" on the primary one, spurs 1 3/8". He was super excited, I think he's hooked. I'll go late...
