    Sportdog vs garmin

If you dog train, I'd recommend against an Alpha. K.I.S.S. is very important, and I've seen plenty of missed corrections with dudes fumbling that handheld. Pro 500+ is where it's at.

    Throw me a bone

Look at rain maps for may and june. Pick your area. You'll find birds...they may not sit in October, but you'll find them.

    Meat handling while traveling

I'll clean critters all night long for a group, as long as someone keeps cracking beers for me!

    Meat handling while traveling

Not saying what to do, but I could see a CO pinching you for being over the limit if you have birds split into two. Maybe not though, I'm not a CO.

NW ND prairie bird count dropped significantly

Overall I'd say grouse were average abundance at best. This was my first true opener, and I couldn't believe how spooky they were...no better than week 3-4 of the season. We did hear that there was a lot of professional dog training going on this summer in the area, but I didn't think they could...

    Drahthaar experiences

Packing up the truck for sharptail opener. The PP can barely be bothered. The DD stares daggers every time I come in. She always thinks she's gonna get left behind. This may not make sense, but the PP hunts with passion. The DD hunts with intensity.

NW ND prairie bird count dropped significantly

That's unfortunate, but it was also steady growth for several years. A drop was probably inevitable? I've always waited til the second or third week of the season to go out, doing my first true opener this year. Can't come soon enough!

    Wet Crispi Boots

I had a pair of Crispi Thors. The most comfortable boot ever out of the box, but leaked like a sieve.

    Moving to Minneapolis area help

That's a very good point. People like to poopoo Minneapolis, but I work in a major metro hospital and we not only get the tougher cases from our state, but the cases (mostly pediatrics) that Sanford in the Dakotas doesn't want or can't make any money from.

    Moving to Minneapolis area help

I actually quite enjoy some of the places getting crapped on. Robbinsdale downtown is quite nice. But I get it for schools, not the best. Polaris is Medina? If that was me I'd do "rural". Delano, Corcoran, Maple Plain. No sense in commuting any further than necessary. And the...

    Pointers in Cold Country

One vote for Pudelpointer. I LOVE watching setters and pointers run, but they are upland specialists. If you ever want to shoot ducks or even drop a bird in the drink, you may have a tough time getting to swim. I'm in Minnesota, but hunt extensively in ND and SD and AZ. We start around 70...
