    New from OK

Go where other people don’t. I avoid hitting the same property the next day, successful or not. Always pinch the property if possible. Take notes and write it down. The weakest ink is more permanent than the strongest mind. Property changes, learn to adapt. Hunting is mostly instinctive. God...

    Family

My boys know that these are the good old days. They have hunting dogs and families. I have provided equipment and opportunities. Taking the time to go is the deciding factor. My FiL asked my wife if I hunted and fished too much, she said Dad, he doesn’t smoke or drink too much and he doesn’t...

It takes a while to find and keep good property access. Or marry into the family. 😜

Welcome to the site. If you found hens, there are roosters nearby, hunt harder and have faith in your dog.

    Bird dog foreleg protection

Tough area to protect, some protection better than none. Your pants are better than shorts. We do our best to avoid barb wire. I carry a staple gun, but try to avoid using one.

    Bird dog foreleg protection

Kids long sleeve t-shirt then a skid plate over. Inspect often and keep clean. Never perfect.

    Your "Go-To" gun and why?

“I will need no other” Absolutely not about need. It is about want and is good to have choices. Continue your journey. I do prefer an English stock on an O/U or SxS.

    Your "Go-To" gun and why?

SKB 20ga. IC/M 25” barrels. $375 in 1979. Why? Because I hate missing and my dog likes retrieving. Benelli Vinci for waterfowl. The gun has to fit, no thinking about the shot, just kill it.

    Gloves for brutal weather

Regular heated gloves are too bulky for me, nice and warm when not handling a gun. Have not tried just heated liners. Getting the finger on the trigger and thumb slipping over the safety was an issue. Might as well used my snowmobile gloves. Still looking for a better solution. Like Dude, I...

    Pad care?

It didn’t look that way after the original injury. This wound stays ulcerated from constant irritation from licking. Keep clean from dirt or plant material, then antibiotic cream, telfa pad and wrap lightly. Protect with boot and don’t let your dog near it. It will heal.

    Confusing fat?

Diet #1 Foods high in carbs like corn will convert to fat on the birds. Foods high in protein like soybeans not so much. Check the crops on the roosters. Depending on season you might find greens, insects, most seed crops and in Kansas we even found acorns. I removed most of the fat before...
