Bears meh, my dogs avoid them. Now snakes and I’m hightailing it to the car.

    Dog Breed Popularity

They can be obedience and agility titled for sure as I have done that. I guess I also have hunt tested a neutered dog. I’m sure a neutered dog can’t be shown in a confirmation ring, otherwise they can be shown in different venues.

    Lots of hunters

Gosh once again I have to agree. Twenty or thirty years ago MT was as good if not better than SD. Their winters are a bit tougher so that played a factor, but they had an immense amount of CRP. That has disappeared. People still come like it was 95 and they are disappointed. The land is still...

At what age you cut down dogs?

I’m 73 and while I only hunt one dog at a time I had 4 working dogs this season. Now mostly retired I can hunt more and need more due to an extended season and injuries. When I was working and only got to hunt a couple weeks a year 2 was fine.

Bob Peters writes a short post.

There are 2 things I am hardwired for. One is chasing roosters. Grouse,Huns quail and waterfowl are fun, but not roosters they are a different level. The other is catching king salmon, especially in small streams with a fly rod, no other fishing comes close. Unfortunately that has to be pretty...

    Pheasants - Cold?

Again back to my original question. What does the ground cover look like? How deep is the snow? Ice? Are the cat tails blown full?

    Pheasants - Cold?

So the big question is what is the ground cover like? Bare spots? Ice? Length of cold time? Chip in Greg.

I checked a secret spot today.

My opinion also. It is probably in Goose’s realm though.

I checked a secret spot today.

Do they still make that stuff? And if they do I think Goose needs to experience it.

    Goldador retriever wanted

Standard poodles were a hunting breed at one time. I suppose there will be some crosssthat are decent bird dogs. We used to find them for free in shopping carts at the supermarket, now people pay big bucks for doodles. Nice dogs, but maybe God’s way of saying you have too much money.

    Pointer or flusher debate

You nailed it as far as my experiences. I think the only real difference is that the pointer people probably have a higher percentage of hitting since they are not out of breath when the bird gets up. Personally I like my dog working where we can make eye contact every so often, I realize that a...

What's up with this "winter" weather?

Mild? I just finished driving home from the lower 48, Outside as we call it. It was 45 in Beaver Creek at the Alaskan border with Canada when I crossed.

You’re messing me up. I had trouble sleeping thinking about that. Mott therapy needed.

    where’s Bob

Good call. Personally I only read a few of his posts and ignore most. That said every so often he says something that makes me go whiskey tango foxtrot and I spit some of my beer out. A little weird humor never hurt anyone.

    Doing an inventory

My wife could care less. Her comment “you haven’t bought a gun lately”. So I intend to fix that.
