    Plots guide?

Thanks guys. I called them and they said they will mail one to me. I’m still good for coffee if we run into each other. I’m the one with Alaskan plates and a car full of Goldens.

    Plots guide?

I know that ND won’t mail them out anymore but is there anyway I can get a hard copy. I don’t come down till well into October and last year all the stores I went were out of copies. Had to use 23s . Sometimes a hard copy that I make notes on is easier to use than an I Pad while driving. If...

    Knee Surgery Question

I have had a full replacement and all I can say is why was I so stupid to wait so long. Had it done in April, ran dogs in agility in July, packed moose in September, and chased pheasants in October. If the other one starts to give me trouble I won’t hesitate to get it replaced. Now nine years...

    Aberdeen area

I know that place I think. The one I know had a kuchen bakery next to it. Was pretty run down the last time I stayed there, but for years it was really convenient.

    Golden retriever

Been there done that. You had a dog from pet/confirmation lines. The ones I have now have a coat that is extremely short. Again the field lines are wirery small dogs with a short coat. The bitch I’m running now has a bit of a fluffy tail that picks up a few burrs but otherwise has a very short...

    Lots of hunters

Only saw a few Goose can give you more on them. Later start for nonresidents, not being able to hunt on block management the first several days of pheasant season, basically moving to regs like the Dakotas. They go into effect in 26. I’m not sure if they go to a limited timeframe for licensing...

    Golden retriever

I’ve had a dozen over the years, presently there are 5 in my house, from 1 to 16.5. Just make sure they are from hunting lines and the breeders did the genetic workups. There is a great article in Shooting Sportsman this spring on the history and ability of goldens. Well worth reading. I also do...

NW ND prairie bird count dropped significantly

Whoa and I thought snakes and blue green algae were the worst things I’d find.

    Grouse/Chicken and Snakes

If there was a snake avoidance clinic locally I would take my dogs to it. But that’s not happening, so I don’t come down until it is freezing at night. Also freezing gets rid of the blue green algae problem.

NW ND prairie bird count dropped significantly

I probably could do the math, but I believe there is more private land open to hunters in SD than in ND. And then MT dwarfs both of them.

NW ND prairie bird count dropped significantly

Yep pre Bakken it was no problem to get a room that took dogs any time. Then there was no rooms, but still good access. Now with e-posting access is tough but rooms are more available.

    Lots of hunters

So initial reports are that numbers are way down this year. Matches up with the upland survey from North west ND. That combined with the new restrictions on nonresidents that go into effect next year should lower the hunter numbers for next year.

NW ND prairie bird count dropped significantly

Yes almost all the land is e-posted and good luck getting on that even if you can track down the owner. The drought is what drained the puddles. Just more steps.

NW ND prairie bird count dropped significantly

If I’m reading it right pheasants are down about 30% in the northwest, matching the big drops in sharpies and Huns. Rest of the state is close to the same, even up a little.

NW ND prairie bird count dropped significantly

Don’t know. He did sell the rv. Me I don’t go until it freezes at night, looks to be awhile for that.

NW ND prairie bird count dropped significantly

Not much reporting. Greg has been ill and hasn’t gone yet. Pretty quiet overall. F&G claims drought kept reproduction down. Still very warm might not be much activity.

NW ND prairie bird count dropped significantly

Saw the report, as you say down significantly especially in northwest. Also mentioned a big swath south of Dickinson that had a large hail storm, like in the neighborhood of a hundred square miles. Pheasant counts should be out soon. Mixed signals from NE MT also.

How many of you let birds go?

I’m solo most of the time and most of the time on public. I get out of the rig quietly with the dog, but once out in the field me and the dogs have an on going conversation.lots of good dogs and how the hell did you miss that one. We both end up happy and somehow end up with plenty to eat.

Looking to plan a hunt around Ellendale, ND

Did well there years ago before electronic posting. Now pretty tough. The cards have turned and now there is probably more accessible land in South Dakota. Yes you can get permission from electronic posted land, but not readily in my experience, in fact I pretty much gave up, the physical posted...

    What’s the best food?

If you travel a lot like I do pro plan is the only one that makes sense since it can be found almost everywhere. Also it seems to have less recalls than some of the other brands.
