How far do you let your dogs go?

Not that this is common either, but I have seen a couple big running dogs that would track for a while, then if you would be fairly close to an edge, they would pull out and run hard down the edge. Sometimes for a long way. Then cut in and hunt back to you. Sometimes it worked like a charm...

I haven't tried my Meindl's yet. they are 400 gran insulation. I'll try using the insoles in my other boots today.

    Danged feet.

I've been trying to get in shape for a while. Working out, walking. Lost some weight and feeling pretty good. My problem is, no matter what boots I wear, my feet hurt after about 5 miles. What's the best insoles? I remember reading a thread about it but can't find it.

How far do you let your dogs go?

Which brings up another point. I see a lot of guys saying they keep them within a certain range. How? With the shock collar or by screaming all the time? Believe me I spent years doing both! If you use the shock collar, you'd better have a bold dog that can take it. A lot of dogs will associate...

How far do you let your dogs go?

Nice looking dog. But I don't call 150 a big runner. Range is relevant to cover/terrain. Also, it's pretty tough to expect a dog that's used to running wide hunting fencerows or short grass prairies to all of a sudden hunt close in a C.R.P. field. The absolutely best is a dog that likes to know...

    Damned Quill PIgs

I told this one before, but my old shorthair got it in S.D. Just 10 or so. Thought we got them all out. 3or 4 days latter I was petting him and checking him out. I felt what I thought was a thorn about halfway between his nose and eyes. Pulled it out from the top and it was a broken quill that...

Marlin model 90 gets it done

Like Obi said. The Rangers were 90's. There could have been someone else who bought 90's and sold them under another name. The Rangers can be had cheaper, but they are exactly the same. I had a 16 90 and a 20 ranger. They also made a .410/22 like the savage 24's but better looking.

Yes, especially if bird populations are low.

    Strange things dogs do.

Someone gave me a nice-looking setter once. That crazy dog didn't give a crap about any kind of bird but would kill every snake he could find. I'd find him throwing the snake around just happy as hell. Gave him to some farm boys. They would take him snake hunting often. We don't have poisonous...

Marlin model 90 gets it done

That's the nicest wood I've ever seen on a 90. And yes, they were very underrated. If you open one up you'll see why. They are very simple and robust.

Can you open up the chamber of a 2 3/4" shotgun to shoot 3" shells?

I'm on there often just to monitor 16-gauge prices. They seem to be falling some. Another place that people don't realize is gunbroker. I've got some good deals on there. Especially if you don't mind the old stock section.

Can you open up the chamber of a 2 3/4" shotgun to shoot 3" shells?

Not sure about heavy shot but I looked into tungsten 2.75. 20 gauge last turkey season. Cheapest I could find was 45.00 for 5. Nope..

Can you open up the chamber of a 2 3/4" shotgun to shoot 3" shells?

Easy on break open guns. Depends on the auto. You would have to talk to a good gunsmith. I do know that guys used to do it with the 1100's and they worked fine.

Do we need to get away from plastic ?

One plus to extractors. You've already got them in your hand, so drop them in the vest.

    Bells on flushers

Absolutely, I lost my old (very close hunting 80 lb) Wire in a chest high switchgrass patch once. I made a couple circles around before I tripped over her pointing a hen.
