    Roadside Survey is Out

Friend of mine in NW near Hoxie - Hill City area says people cutting corn and beans are not seeing birds. I've come to distrust these surveys.

astute observation. a retiring KS game warden was given a page in the state's wildlife magazine to say goodbye, express his views, etc. He said that in 20 years of being a warden he did not come across EVEN ONE deer camp where everything was on the up and up.

    Retirement gift for me!

that does look like a good buy. those protruding choke tubes are nice; no need for a tool and much handier for changing chokes while afield.

    Retirement gift for me!

The basic Beretta o/u is the Silver Pigeon which Cabelas sells for $2500. The Citori 725 is priced about the same. Both fine guns.

    Retirement gift for me!

The Citoris and the Berettas come up differently as I found out the last time I shopped for a new gun. When shouldered, for me the Beretta was high whereas the Citori was on. I've been shooting my 625 (now 725) ever since and knocking them down just fine. Either gun should be a treasured gift.

Getting older and I am starting to notice it.

Amen! Take an anti-inflammatory before going afield. What about regular exercise and some weights? They help.

any advice on how to scout WIHI remotely using technology?

Birds a rarity in KS now, no kidding. NE too.

eenie meenie miney mo... which state should we go?

Hardly any birds in KS or NE. But do your due diligence re SD because it has changed too. The wildlife authority now says there are more birds east of the river than west as used to be the case. I interpret that to mean that the population west of the river plummeted, not that the east side...

I always wear gloves: Cabelas camoskinz. They have a sticky grid on the palm making it much easier to hold the gun. If it's cold I wear an insulated glove on the left hand.

    Importance of eCollars?

here's a good reason to use ecollars: fall harvest is going strong. farm equipment and grain trucks are roaring up and down the roads. you've knocked down a bird and it fell or died on the road - and here comes a grain truck doing sixty. can you stop your dog without an ecollar? another...
