I only hang if it's cool to cold weather. I hang the whole bird for several days, maybe up to five depending on temp.

Thank you for this info. Will be breaking in/training a new (to me) dog, a young adult rescue. Our first hunt. Thinking it will be best to hunt alone this time.

Mine's a Brittany. If I'm hunting alone I let the dog do the hunting as long as I can see it or hear its bell. If I'm hunting with others I try to match the range of their dogs.
