    Newbie to hunt tests.

I believe that the AkC junior test is 2 single marks land or water followed by two singles marks of the other, assuming you are called back for the second series. No dog honoring at the junior level. Your dog will run by itself. I believe you can use a whistle to handle the dog. Google AKC...

    Newbie to hunt tests.

And there are different level tests in HRC, AKC and APLA for example. Not sure about other organizations. In these organizations listed, at the Started, Junior or Certified level, your dog would run by itself.

    Looking for a new double

I’ve ended up with Beretta. I think Stevens, Franchi , mossberg, weatherby may be ones to look at in that price range.

    Looking for a new double

I own a CZ Southpaw. First o/u. Don’t recall the action’s tightness when I bought it but it’s fine now. I think most guns will loosen some with use. Started discharging both barrels with 1 trigger pull. Sent it back to CZ and they fixed it. This was several years ago. Today it seems much...

Silver pigeon lll 20 ga 30”

I have both guns in 12 gauge. Main difference is the laser engraving. The III is a game scene and the I is a floral pattern. I prefer the 28 inch barrel. It is possible to get a brand new wood set fitted too. And the newer ultraleggaro is very light in 12 gauge. It’s great for walk up...

28th Annual Trip To South Dakota

Sorry to hear about your loss. Nothing removes that pain, but a new puppy and time surely helps soften it.

    Shooting glove

I like Wells Lamont deerskin gloves. Not to expensive and provide me with enough dexterity to use my over and under without issue. I wear them regardless of the weather.

    Training eye control/marking

Some things to consider are how far away the marks are, how heavy the cover is and which way the wind is blowing. Also, where is the mark being thrown from and how do you get the dog’s attention to look that way? Further is harder, heavy cover is harder, being up wind of the mark is harder...

    Your "Go-To" gun and why?

I think a person could probably learn to shoot any gun so long as they figure out how to hold it in order to hit what they are aiming at.

Might have to switch to canvas

I’m no pro trainer but I believe that Orange bumpers are usually used on blind retrieves. Dogs have a hard time seeing orange. Black are easier for the dog to see in some conditions and likewise White are easier to see in other conditions-especially when you are working on longer distances.

    Pointer or flusher debate

Pointing lab? Mine points (and the guys that I hunt with who have PL’s do too (4x GMPR’s and TC dogs)) when the bird is absolutely not moving, otherwise flushing game on. My dog has no APLA certifications. My multiple hunting buddies dogs do have the certifications. They all hunt upland...

    Shooting Woes - Help Needed

Matt D I am right handed left eye dominant. When I found that out I started shooting left handed. Made a big improvement. Walk 213 I’d suggest slowing down with the first shot and then practice mounting the gun with a mag light in the barrel so the you know exactly where the gun is pointed...

    Beretta 686 pigeon 2

Yeah…you need to know which eye is dominant. Could be either. I’ll make an open triangle with both hands touching at arms length and both eyes open to start. Pick something in the distance like a door knob that you can see through the triangle, with both eyes open. Close one eye at a time...

    New from OK

Hunt harder to me might mean going over some areas where you’ve already been. Go back to them. Maybe you walked by a bird? If you walked the edges , try the middle too, and visa versa.

    Beretta 686 pigeon 2

I agree with Matt D. Chokes, case etc..,in addition, is the barrel length what you are looking for, is the wood better/worse than what you’d want? Is the gun cast for the hand you shoot? Gun weight OK? In my experience lighter guns with shorter barrels are used more for field work and...
