I need help with spots for our trip

People like that really tan my hide. I mean, these are *public* hunting areas and public birds, right? This is a public forum. All any of us want to do when we go to Dakota is get on those public birds. Note the recurring theme? What's the problem? Doesn't seem like it should be this...

I need help with spots for our trip

I thought maybe it would be a private hunting preserve. This is even better. Not much competition.

I'm not even convinced Bob is going to SD this week. Fun to see the trolls get fed now and then though. :p

    Bells on flushers

A bell or beeper or a gps collar is the solution to that problem. Putting orange on them helps somewhat, but in a lot of cover they'll still disappear. The good thing about a flusher (without these tools) is at least you'll see them moving soon or later. Worst case, you have an unexpected...

Iowa hunters, how was your opener?

I had a spurless boy like that in January in SD last season. He was a good sized bird too, with full colors.

Thinking about this more, I could use the same gun for upland, waterfowl, small game, turkey, and deer. I already have the most challenging one covered. ;)

Come on, no hero opener day pics posted yet???

Maybe they got pushed out of where they were eating? Or the beans just got harvested, so they moved?

Guess they heard about the benefits of "crop" rotation.

Easier to hit the broad side of a flock with that punt gun shooting roofing nails and AAA batteries.

What it's like *everywhere* in east river SD this year: You don't want to be the slowpoke with the unzipped red jacket when the roosters come.

I heard one of those youtube guys say not to bother waiting for them to get further out. He seems to do okay, so I figured I'd follow his advice. They have been holding pretty good. But first bird yesterday was about 45-50 yards out. I didn't have a choice with him. The decoy bird flushed...

:p I have to be careful not to get too heavy, or I won't be able to cover the ground like we seem to do. Went 7 miles today and 4 yesterday. But that was a lot easier than the 8.5 and 9 last week in hellish cover. One of the multiple reasons I went with this gun is light weight. 6.5 pounds...

The bric-a-brac claptrap managed to take the head clean off a rooster at 10 yards today, crossing right to left. Got the second low and away boy at about 15 yards out. Note Honey looking at the camera in the 2nd photo. P.S. The fake wood and plastic receiver and barrel are still holding up well.

    2025 season reports

PUBLIC LAND HUNT Another beautiful day out there. Little bit of cloud cover made seeing colors more difficult earlier, but brighter out in the afternoon. Warmer today than yesterday (61 right now), but a nice wind too. Got down to the area around 10:30 and there were hunters at the first few...
